Chapter 7, Part 1: Their- Our Dreams
Allison
Earlier this morning, I have decided to go for an early morning jog to take the edge off after such a long week.
Jogging up my driveway, I took out my AirPods before entering the house. "Hey bud! How was the jog?" Dad voiced from the kitchen.
I walked over to the kitchen to the sound of pans clanging against each other. "Yeah it was great, um, what are you cooking?" I questioned as I sat down on the barstool.
"Um, some spinach frittata and avocado toast for breakfast" he grinned proudly.
I looked at him unsure, "And when did you learn how to make that? You can't even cook rice properly let alone work the toaster" I chuckled, suddenly amused at his battle with the two utensils.
"From Vivian, and can you at least lie to make your dad feel better about his cooking skills" he scoffed trying to control the heat of the stove while attending to the toaster simultaneously.
"Have you ever thought about doing it one by one?" I chuckled shaking my head as I walked over to the toaster and pressed it down firmly before crossing my arms against my chest.
Dad sighed before smiling in relief, "What will I do without you".
10 Minutes Later -----
It's been a while since dad and I sat down together for breakfast. Usually, we would be rushing out of the house to get to where we needed to be. It was just like old times."Allie, we need to talk about Stanford" Dad mentioned out of the blue.
I looked down onto my almost empty plate, "What about it?"
Dad cleared his throat, "I hear that registrations are opening soon, you should be getting ready for that"
"But dad, my finals are still four months away" I chuckled before bringing my plate to the sink.
"Yeah I know, but, there's no harm in applying early right? If your mom is here she would say the same thing" Dad pointed at me with his spoon.
I shook my thoughts away, "Got it" I nodded before lathering the dishes with soap.
"Actually dad, I need to talk to you about-"
I got cut off when his phone started ringing, "Hold that question bud" he pointed while picking up his phone.
Sighing, I turned back towards the sink and continued to wash the dishes as I listened to his conversation on the phone.
"Okay, what time is your appointment?.. yeah I can do that.. I don't know if she has plans today.. hold on let me ask her.."
In the midst of cleaning I turned my head, "Allie do you have plans later?" dad asked while covering the bottom of his phone.
"I supposed not" I shrugged, "Why?"
"Vivian has a nail appointment at two and she said she'd like to treat us for dinner at Jodie's after, do you want to come?" dad asked with hopeful eyes.
Instantly, reminding of the promise I made with him last night, about trying to be nice to the she-beast.
I sighed, "Since she's not the one cooking, I'll go"
Dad widened his eyes, quickly talking into the phone before hanging up.
"She could've heard that, what did we talk about yesterday?" he frowned.
