2 months on.

I must admit I quite like this job. I get to push screaming fan-girls away from where I am, square up to people that annoy me, argue and throw people out… Everything I would have got fired for! Not to mention I get to spend a lot of time with Conor. He and I are getting on like a house on fire. Even when we’re not working, we spend time together, going to Nando’s or watching a movie. It can get annoying having to bring my job outside of work though, if a load of girls come running to our table when we’re out eating and I have to tell them to behave and back off or I’d remove them from the restaurant. I feel so embarrassed I have to do it, but Conor just smiles at me and it makes it all better.  Well, we’re dating, but you see I have to pretend were just good mates for the paps. I cant be seen holding his hand or kissing him or whatever because it would cause a huge spark in the media and could cause us trouble – which I don’t want!

I get called into the meeting room at Conor’s management building. I’m so nervous. I’ve never been called in for anything with important people since me getting fired at my last job. What have I done wrong this time? Oh God I hope they don’t fire me…

“Ella? You can come in now.” A husky voice shouts from behind the Executive’s Door. My stomach drops. I gulp and open the door, plastering on a fake smile. Sitting in the middle of a huge room are a well dressed man and woman. The man is wearing a three-piece suit, grey and pinstriped, white shirt and black tie. His hair side parted and gelled into place. The woman sits in a Pinstriped black blazer and knee length skirt. She wears a pink shirt.

“Hello. How are you?” I say politely. I feel underdressed now, strolling into this room wearing black skinny jeans, hi-top trainers and a printed tee.

“Please sit down, Ella. My name is Mark, and this beside me is Diana.” Diana smiles and nods her head.

“Hello Mark, and Diana. Nice to meet you.” I say holding my hand out and shaking both their hands. I sit down, my legs shaking.

“Now, we need to talk to you about something very secretive. You can not tell anyone what you hear today, you understand?” Diana suddenly didn’t seem as friendly as I initially thought…

“Yes I understand. This will not exit this room.” I say confidently.

“Good.” Mark begins, clasping his hands and leaning forward. You could tell he means business. “Now, I think we’re safe to say you are doing a very good job. Baring in mind we hadn’t thought of bodyguards and things at the moment as he was only just entering stardom, you have shone through in this job that was created just for you. I want to personally thank you, and I’m sure Diana does too, for standing up for Conor the night that man began a fight with him.” He said positively, and Diana nods in agreement.

“Thank you” I say politely, “I just wanted to help someone in need of it.”

“You are a very special lady…” Diana began, “We know most people would have turned a blind eye to that in case they got caught up in it… And the fact you put your life on the line for Conor really does mean a lot to us, and especially him. And that you also turned the gig tickets down really proved you were a good Samaritan, although baffled us all!” Diana said with a smile. I liked her, she seemed like a really nice lady.

“Anyway, onto business I’m afraid…” Mark said. His tone dulled down. “We wanted to personally tell you, rather than you just finding out, or noting it from Michael or Conor.” I take a huge breath in and let a huge breath out nervously. “Now, as you know, Conor is doing a small and very personal gig, where he is only going to 6 places within the UK and performing. Now we have absolutely no doubt in our minds that you will be able to handle that. The trolls on websites will not take the time and effort out to find this gig and pay for an exclusive ticket, so we’re not worried about that. What we are worried about is the other people in the line up…” He took a large breath in and out nervously, we were obviously feeling the same way! “One Direction will be there too.” Now, if anyone else had been told that news, they’d have been running and jumping round that office, most probably screaming. I, however, sat silently and allowed my face to tell the story. “Now this is why we’re telling you now. I know you wont be able to handle getting fans away from all those people, so we’ve hired a few more bodyguards as well as the band bringing their own. The main issue there is that you will be the only girl there to protect them, and we’ve seen some online rumours of gangs of haters coming to get them. We’ve tightened all security, but we want to make sure you are prepared… We’ve bought some pepper spray, batons and all just in case but we’re hoping you wont need them.” Mark finally looked at ease now he’d told me the news. I just sat thinking ‘Are you actually kidding me right now?’ Either way I stood up and shook both their hands, exchanging goodbyes with a smile but as soon as the door closed behind me and I was out of that office, my mind turned to other things. How on earth am I meant to protect a band and Conor? What if that Barry guy finds out and turns up to finish the job? What if each band member has the same? I can’t hold off like 6 crazies! I just about handle the fans. 12 year old screaming girls are a far cry from people who want to actually cause them pain.

I jump in my car and drive home, my mind just spinning with all the thoughts I have and the things I’ve been told. Yet I can’t tell anybody? Great. Way to make me crazy! But then it suddenly hit me… The gigs start tomorrow…
