It was dark when John and Sherlock left the crime scene. John shivered and unconsciously moved a fraction of an inch closer to his tall friend, this didn't go unnoticed by Sherlock who smirked to himself under the cover of the darkness.

As they approached the road Sherlock thrust out his arm and almost immediately a taxi pulled up.

"How do you do that?" John asked once they had given their address to the cabbie.

"Do what?" Replied Sherlock, looking absentmindedly out of the taxi window.

"Just, you know, stick your arm out and a taxi comes straight away"

"Problem?" Said Sherlock, smiling and turning his attention to his smaller companion.

"Yeah, it's bloody annoying" John grinned up at Sherlock "I can never get a taxi when it's cold"

"Well it's a good you have me or you'll be walking home cold" Sherlock said still grinning down at his doctor.

There stared into each other's eyes just a millisecond to long to be casual. Sherlock broke the stare with great difficulty, dragging his blue-green eyes away from Johns brown ones.

..............................................................

John sighed as he entered he flat, going straight to the kettle to make himself a cup of tea "Sherlock u wanna cuppa?" He asked.

No answer

"Sherlock?" John called again as he walked into the living room.

Sherlock stood facing the wall thinking
"Increased Pulse, dilation of the pupils, eye contact, mirroring, unconscious touching... all the signs are there" he muttered under his breath

"Sherlock? Are you ok?" John asked tentatively

Suddenly Sherlock spun round to face John. He gave him a wide smile as he began to walk towards him.

"Umm... Sherlock?" John said walking backwards until his back hit the wall

Sherlock carried on walking until less than a centimetre separated their bodies.

John looked up into Sherlocks face, a confused look on his own.

Sherlock reached down and brought Johns hands up so they were in-between their chests

"Look at that John" Sherlock said, looking down at his trembling hands rapped tightly around John's "I'm nervous, this is the second time I've been nervous" he laughed slightly, looking deep into John's eyes.

John swallowed before saying hoarsely "sorry, am I missing something?"

"I don't know" Sherlock replied breathlessly "I haven't done, haven't experienced anything like this before John, do you understand?"

"No" John almost whispered

"Nether do I" Sherlock breathed

Before leaning in so their lips touched softly.

Their world stopped, suspended in that single moment, time was irrelevant, that second felt like it lasted for years and yet it was gone to soon.

"No" John said, pushing Sherlock back "NO" he repeated louder.

Sherlock took a couple of steps back observing his friend.

"WHAT THE HELL, SHERLOCK" John almost shouted

Sherlock looked hurt for a second before saying sheepishly "I thought... I thought"

"YOU THOUGHT WHAT? SHERLOCK." John said blushing and running a shaky hand through his hair

"All the signs were there, John. I just thought" Sherlock said a pink hue colouring his cheekbones.

"SHERLOCK. I AM NOT GAY!" John was shouting now.

Sherlock closed his eyes and sighed letting the cool mask slide back over his face "it seems I have misjudged the situation" he said cooly

"Yeah, no shit Sherlock" John said turning towards the door

"Where are you going?" Sherlock said flatly

"OUT!" John barked, grabbing his coat and slamming the door behind him.
