But most of the people who remained didn't stay for the drama soon to come and ran out having reached the final point of pain they could bear without feeling like dying. The remainder struggled to steady their breathing. Then Wei Ying opened his eyes.
"Wei Wuxian!" Jiang Cheng lunged and lifted him by his collar. Lan Zhan jumped to his feet and grabbed Wei Ying.
"Let go." Lan Zhan said, warningly. Jiang Cheng scoffed at him.
"Oh? And why should I? Huh? Tell me why should I?" Lan Zhan shoved his hands away and laid Wei Ying down again.
"Because you don't deserve anything he did for you." His reply was harsh. Then Wei Ying whimpered.
"L- Lan Zhan...." Everyone looked at the man in black who was twisting in pain.
"Wei Ying." Lan Zhan's attention was immediately drawn to the precious man in his arms.
"Please... Lan Zhan..... Make it stop.... Make the pain go away...."
"Wei Ying." He completely woke up.
"Lan Zhan? What happened?" he asked not seeing Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng lunged for him again and this time Lan Zhan pushed him with his sword and Wei Ying noticed him.
"Lan Zhan." 'It's alright.' Lan Zhan made a noise of disagreement but moved away even though he kept a good hold on him.
"What is it now Jiang Cheng?" Wei Ying asked, suddenly tired, struggling to stay awake. Jiang Cheng fell on his knees, not quite sitting nor kneeling and tears streaked through his face.
"What is it now, Wei Wuxian?! You said we would be the Twin Prides of Yun Meng and you would never betray the Jiang Clan!" There was a silence only broken by Jiang Cheng's sobs.
"Why Wei Wuxian? Why? Why didn't you tell me?" Wei Ying's eyes were red with the effort to not cry.
"It's..... because I don't want to see you being like this." He said softly. Jiang Cheng raised his head.
"You said... that I would be Clan Leader in the future. And you would be my subordinate to assist me for this lifetime. You said yourself." Jiang Cheng whispered. But somehow, everyone heard it. Wei Ying tried to smile.
"I'm sorry. I broke my promise." Jiang Cheng had a ghost of a smile as well.
"We've reached this point now, then.... I'm sorry too." Wei Ying looked surprised and then his face crumpled with effort. And slowly his hand twitched and raised. He touched Jiang Cheng. A comforting gesture. Jiang Cheng caught his hand with his and squeezed. There were no words needed. They're brothers. And everything is in the past. It was time to move on. Feeling the emotional party has gone on for long enough Wei Ying decided to tell them a good news.
"I have a new core now. And It's much, much more stronger that the one I had before." Wei Ying said with a chuckle. Everyone was dumbfounded.
"How? How could it be stronger? Why didn't it come out when Lan Quiren used the Core Ripper?" Jiang Fengmian questioned. Wei Ying smiled.
"My new core is hidden so it's impossible to be found by anyone but me. I developed it using a secret technique I invented." Achieve the Impossible indeed. The cultivators found themselves thinking.
"Why couldn't you tell it earlier? Idiot!" Jiang Cheng huffed, his voice hoarse with crying. Wei Ying chuckled again.
"It was a surprise! How could I say it earlier and spoil it?" They smiled. Finally the brothers were back together.
"Wei Ying." came a quiet voice. Wei Ying looked at his Lan Zhan and hummed.
"You need rest. Sleep." Wei Ying's smile softened. Then he relented his control and let himself go to obviation. The last thing he remembered thinking was
