Prologue and Chapter 1- The beginning

PREFACE- ARABELLA'S POV

Sitting in my room, playing my favourite game with my headset on, I try to block out the situation happening in the room next door. It's not very surprising that it happened, Camren being the bitch she is and my brother being a pushover, but I still hoped for the best for my older sister. My teammate calls out the position of an opponent and I quickly take care of them with a simple headshot. We talk more throughout the match, easily taking care of the opposing team and winning. I take off my headset, about to go downstairs to get a snack, when I hear yelling coming from next door. Looks like Jordynn walked in on them. Opening my door slightly, I look over and see Jordynn running downstairs, Camren and Josh both yelling for her to wait...like that would really work. Who wouldn't storm off angrily, walking in on her girlfriend having sex with her stepbrother? I quickly decide to close the door, going back to the game and giving them the time and space to work things out on their own. I didn't know until the sirens were heard, that was a situation that would change all of our lives for good.

CHAPTER 1

So my sister is in critical condition, an "animal attack" they say, Josh and my sisters, now ex, girlfriend are getting closer, I am running late and I still can't find my homework that is due today. This day couldn't get any worse. I hurriedly do, yet another, sweep of my room, checking over any place it could be, and still am unable to locate the damn paper. Frustrated, I gather my bag and head downstairs, figuring one missing assignment wouldn't affect my grade too much, and that talking to my teacher about an extra credit assignment would be better then being late yet again. As I walk down the stairs I see Josh standing at the bottom of the stairs, waiting and holding the misplaced paper. Glaring I snatch the paper, "Why the hell do you have my paper? I was searching for it all this morning," I yell at him, confused as to why he would need a junior math paper as a senior.

"Camren needed it yesterday and I figured you wouldn't mind," he says, scratching the back of his neck slightly embarrassed.

"Oh, you two actually did homework? I am surprised you had time between fucking her, Jordynn finding out, and having to chase after Jordynn only to find her fucked up in the woods because she ran away from your dumbasses," I glare more and he shrinks beneath my gaze. I am usually not this harsh, but when he not only steals my homework but my sister ends up in the hospital because of him, I think I have a reason to be pissed at him. Seeing him shrink before me, I feel bad though, I can tell he feels bad enough already and I sigh. "I'm sorry Josh, I am just irritated today. All this is too much and I got worked up, I am sorry," I say quietly.

"It's all my fault, I know, but Camren actually likes me ya know? I didn't mean for anything to happen, it just did. I am sorry."

"Whatever Josh, let's just go to school," I smile slightly, trying to regain a semblance of regularity. He smiles back, and opens the door, and we head to school.

Walking into the building everything seems the same, besides the fact that half of the kids were whispering about Jordynn's attack. Bad thing about being popular, whenever something happens to you, it automatically becomes the center of conversation. People talking about the attack speculate why and what happened, guessing the animal that attacked or the reason she was in the woods in the first place, none of them have a clue.

Josh and I look at eachother, continuing to try to block out the talk with our own small talk, much to no avail seeing as what happens next. A boy, looking to be about a year older than me, walks up to my brother. "Hey Josh, heard about your sister becoming animal bait, that sucks, such a shame to mess up that pretty face of hers," He says smirking.

"Oh shut up Lewis, what do you want," my brother replies, shrinking down to half his size under the weight of Lewis's reddish brown eyes.

"Well, you know you're my go to guy and I have heard some interesting things concerning the reason for this little incident, maybe I could cut you a deal so it doesn't...ya know, get out. I mean, I am sure everyone would love to know about your little escapade with your sister's-"

"Shut up," I say plainly, cutting him off quickly. This causes him to look at me, noticing me for the first time since this encounter began.

"Excuse me, and who are you thinking you have the right to interrupt me?" He retorts, staring me down, and hoping to cause me to back down.

I keep my composure and look him dead in the eye. "Arabella, Jordynn and Josh's sister, and before you can think you can just blackmail my brother like that, you can just back the fuck off and walk away from us."

He looks at me for a second, deciding if this is an argument he wants to continue with before scoffing. "Whatever," he says finally before walking off angrily.

I exhale deeply, trying to calm myself and continue my day unscathed. "Thank you," Josh says, his head hanging down in shame and I reach over and hug him, trying to comfort him in whatever way I can. He hugs me back, accepting any form of reassurance he could get. I can tell that things are only going to get harder the next few days, and I am not looking forward to finding out what that's going to be like.
