A jolt and a shudder
I yell for my mother
We cling to each other as we plunge into the night.
I will survive.
Dive towards the hostile ground
I'm too afraid to make a sound
If we crash will we be found?
My mouth is dry with fright.
I will survive.
Deathly flames reach the moon
Choking heat engulfs the room
It will be our fatal doom
The flames increase in height.
I will survive.
The stars laugh goodbye
Glad we left their sky
I'm so afraid to die
In this raging inferno of might.
I will survive.
Death visits our charred aircraft
To stay and cry would be daft
I'm alive, will try to laugh
The pain and hurt away.
I will survive.
I light a branch, to be a torch
And turn away from family scorched
Loved ones would want me to march
Until the bright new day.
I will survive.
Burrs cling to my naked skin
Cold wind blows through my clothes thin
Determination does seep in
I glimpse a hopeful ray.
I will survive.
On that hill I set my sights
No longer overwhelmed with frights
I've made it through that freezing night
No more disarray.
I have survived.
AN: In honor, and dedicated to Sailor Gutzler, a beautiful little girl who survived a plane crash in Kentucky that killed off her family, leaving her the sole survivor. She is seven years old. I ask that you keep her in your prayers.
