"Sadie... Sadie darling, can you hear me?" Sadie slowly stretched open her eyelids as if she had just woke from a thousand year sleep. "Honey you have to talk to me, can you hear me?" Slowly, her vision straightened and she saw the image of her husband down on one knee hovering over her. Her two daughters were by his side, just a few feet behind, both sniffing and crying.
"Everything is okay girls, Mommy is okay. Sade, do you remember what happened?" Sadie looked at where she lay on the ground of the front deck. She had a small cut on her leg from where her glass broke and had sliced her on the way from her rocking chair to the ground. "Oh honey, you're bleeding, let me grab you a bandage," Scott started to get up but Sadie grabbed his arm with all the strength she had and pulled him back down.
"What happened to me? Girls, girls are you okay?" Marie stood staring at her mother with a quivering lip as Addy stood behind her cautiously, sniffing back tears. "They're fine Sade, just a little spooked, Marie told me she heard you coughing and you just kept coughing until you fell off the chair. The girls came to get me and there you were, totally out cold. I think maybe we should get you to the doctor today."
Sadie slid up into a sitting position and shook her head. "No, no I'm fine-" her eyes grew wide and she gasped as her gaze averted to the willow trees and saw a black, faceless figure in a white gown standing among the branches. "What is it?" Scott turned around just to see an empty yard. "Honey, we're getting you to the doctor, okay, this is not settling well with me."
Sadie, shaking her head and rubbing her eyes, said, "Listen I think I just got too much sun, can you help me inside?" Scott nodded and helped his pregnant wife to her feet. "Girls, come here, momma's okay." Both of the girls broke down crying at the sight of their mother acting like herself again. They hugged her and the family of four went inside to get out of the heat after a scare that shook them all. As they walked in through the big double doors, Sadie looked back at the willow trees for a couple of seconds, then closed the door behind her.
