Demi

When Joe took my hand, I felt tingles throughout my body, and butterflies were in my stomach. I wonder if he felt it too. I haven't felt this way towards a boy since my ex, Philip, he cheated on me with my bully, ever since then, I haven't been able to trust a boy.

Joe led me to my next class. For some reason, a part of me was kind of happy that he was in my next class. We arrived seconds before the late bell. I quickly took my seat in the back corner, and Joe sat next to me.

I wanted to ask him why he would sit next to me, but I didn't. I took out my notebook and textbook and began the assignment on the board. A few minutes passed when I felt someone nudging me.

I looked over to see Joe trying to hand me a folded up piece of paper. I took it. I got nervous, because the only notes I ever received that weren't from Selena, usually said that I was fat, ugly, and a loser. I opened the paper and read it:

When do you have lunch?

I glanced over at Joe who was waiting for me to answer.

Next period. Why?

I folded the paper again and gave it back to Joe. I saw him smile and write something else down. He soon handed it back to me.

I unfolded it and read it.

I do too. Would you want to eat lunch with me, my brothers and their friends?

I smiled and quickly wrote yes. I passed it back to Joe. He opened it and smiled. Then he put the paper back into his bag.

I waited impatiently for the bell to ring. When it finally did, I got up and put my notebook away, and held onto my textbook.

"You ready?" Joe asked.

I smiled, "Yeah."

Joe

When Demi said yes to eating lunch with me and some other people, I wanted to jump up and down.

When the bell finally rang, Demi and I left the classroom. I took her textbook from her and carried it for her. She blushed when I did that. It was cute. I let her lead me to her locker. She opened it and grabbed her lunch after she put her textbook away. We quickly walked to my locker so I could grab my lunch. We then walked out to the grassy area outside of the cafeteria.

I saw Kevin and Nick and quickly made my way over there, "Hey guys." I smiled at them, "This is my new friend, Demi. She's new here." I smiled as they waved to her, "Demi, this is Kevin and his girlfriend Danielle, and this is Nick and his girlfriend Miley." I pointed to each of them.

"Hello." She waved to them shyly. We sat down and started eating.

"So Demi, where did you move from?" Kevin asked.

"Dallas, Texas." She answered.

"Was it nice there?" Danielle asked.

"It was alright." She looked down at her hands.

"So how come you moved here?" Miley chimed in.

"My mom got a job here."

"Well, I'm sure you'll come to love it here." Danielle gave her a smile.

"Thanks. I'm already liking it so far. Everyone here seems pretty nice." She smiled.

We finished our lunch and began heading back to our lockers, "So what class do you have next?" I asked Demi.

"Ms.Reynolds. Do you know where she is." She looked down at her schedule.

"Yeah, I'll show you." I led her to Ms.Reynolds classroom.

"Thank you." She smiled at me.

"So I was wondering if maybe I could walk you home today?" I really hoped that she would say yes.

She thought about it for a moment, "Sure. I'll meet you at my locker." She answered. I smiled as she turned away to go into her class.

I turned around and started for my own class. This day just keeps getting better and better!

Demi

What was I thinking? I barely even know Joe. I don't know why I told him he could walk me home.

You can't trust boys, Demi. Don't you remember what happened last time?

I thought to myself.

Maybe he's different? Maybe I can trust him?

When the last bell rang for the end of school, I started walking towards my locker. Joe was already there waiting for me.

"Hey, you ready to go?" He asked me.

I put my textbooks in my locker and shut it, "Yep." I smiled at him.

We walked out of the school and down the road towards my house. We walked in silence until we were walking past a park, "You wanna go on the swings?" Joe asked.

"Sure." I agreed. We made our way towards the swings and sat on them.

"So, Demi, tell me a little bit about yourself."

"Um...I'm 17. I moved here from Dallas, Texas because my mom got a job here. My mom and dad got a divorce a couple months ago because my dad is  abusive." What was I doing?! But it was no use, now that I've started, I can't stop, "I only had one friend back home, her name is Selena. I only had one friend because everyone else bullied me, but mostly this girl named Sierra. I used to have this boyfriend named Phillip, and he cheated on me with Sierra. Ever since then I haven't been able to trust boys. But that was until I met you. I'm not sure why I'm telling you this. I guess it might be because I haven't talked to anyone about this before, and you just seem so nice. If you don't want to be my friend--"

Joe quickly wrapped me in a hug, "Do you always ramble like this?" He asked. I let out a small laugh.

"No." I answered.

We parted and he wiped a way a tear off of my face, "I would never do that to you, Demi. I'll never hurt you, and I'll always be here when you need me."

"Promise?" I asked.

"I promise." He smiled and wiped another tear away from my cheek.

"So now that you know about me, tell me some about you." I gave him a smile.

"Well, there's not much to tell. I'm also 17. I've grown up in New Jersey with my family. I have three brothers, Kevin, Nick, and Frankie. Kevin, Nick, and I do soccer...and that's about it." He answered.

I smiled at him, "We should probably go."

"Probably." We got up and walked to my house.

"You live in this house?" He asked me as we started walking up my drive way.

"Yes, why?"

"Oh nothing, it's just, my house is literally the one right across the street." He pointed at the house behind him.

"Wow! The odds of that!" I smiled. We got up to my front porch.

"Well, I had a great time. Thank you, Joe." I smiled at him.

"Anytime. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yes." I answered. He smiled at me and walked across the street to his house, and I quickly went inside.

"It's about time. Neighbors are coming over at six to have dinner with us." My mom said as soon as I walked through the door.

I checked the time to see that it was 4:30, "And you're just telling me this now?!" I panicked and quickly ran to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready.
