Bang Chan
SHIFTS AND TATTOOS
April 19th, 2020
5:23 PM"You're too early for your shift." A girl said, eyes straight watching Chan to put his stuffs in place.
Chan chuckled. It has been a week and he met another part-timer that works on the same store. Her name is Nakahara Mirai, and she's half-japanese. Apparently, she has to stay here in Korea alone and is currently finding a better job than this little convenient store their place has. She is way older than Chan and Jisung, and she's really nice– she just loves helping, although she can't even help herself.
"I'm just 7 minutes early, Rai." Chan said, going back to the counter after wearing the store's uniform. He looked around, noticing that his partner isn't on the store. "Jisung isn't here yet?"
Mirai nods her head, looking outside and points at the comic store beside them. "He's probably there, reading like a perv on some books."
"You're mean to him," He chuckles.
"Well, he's mean to me too. It's a fair treatment we need here." Mirai said, chuckling with Chan when a customer went in.
Chan watched the customer walk around, searching something on the shelves. He looked back at Mirai and shook his head in disagreement.
"That's not being fair," Chan said. "You guys are just rude! Go away from the counter, it's already my shift."
He pushed Mirai away when the girl is done with the cashier, and as if on cue, Jisung came inside the store. The boy earlier paid for the foods he bought and Chan watched Jisung go inside the changing room. Mirai scoffed because the brunette didn't greet them both and turned at Chan but the male shakes his head before the girl has said anything.
"No, both of you are rude." Chan said, shushing Mirai down with his hands.
"Says the guy who was beaten by some kind of gang because he wants to hit with the leader's girlfriend." Mirai said and Chan dramatically gasped, making both of them laugh.
"Now, you really are rude. Where did you even know that?" Chan asked.
"You told me that last week but looks like Mr. Grampa Chan didn't remember anything." Mirai shakes her hand in the air to shush the latter so Chan did.
"It wasn't my fault that his girlfriend told me she was single?" The male said defensively. "You know, Noona, just shut up and go home. It's getting late."
Just after he said those, Jisung came outside the changing room and stood beside him on the counter. Chan and Mirai is still bickering with each other while Jisung just sat there silently. He just listened to the conversation by the other two. He seems entertained but he didn't want to show it. He loves acting like the tough kid.
Chan watched Mirai leave the store and grabbed some cleaning materials on the storage area after. He began to clean some shelves and the floor, while the brunette on the counter is reading something. Maybe another of those magazine issues he always has. Jisung occasionally look to see what Chan is doing and will go back to what he was reading– and it has always been like this. Whenever Mirai leaves the store, there is nothing but the sudden chimes of the bell is heard between them. No words exchanged, only hesitant glances to talk with each other.
Chan respected how Jisung is towards him and he is trying to understand why the latter was like that. He would watch the brunette do some things around the store, and how he eats at their breaks– he also likes trying to make a short conversation between them but Jisung is tough. He barely reply a good answer and mostly shuts Chan down. It was always as if Chan is talking with himself and it is getting to his patience.
