Three months later

"OH MY GOD! It's Iwaizumi Hajime, the world class surfer!"

"I can't believe it's him!"

"My life is complete."

"He survived a shark attack! I heard he fought it off!"

"Wow, he really does have bara arms!"

"You're my idol, Iwaizumi!"

"Iwaizumi! Will you date me, please?"

"I made you some chocolates, do you want to try them?"

"Can we take a picture with you?!"

"Girls, one at a time, please," Hajime said, feeling rather overwhelmed. At the same time, he felt a surge of pleasure at the simple joy of being able to speak.

After news about the shark attack had gotten out, Iwaizumi had received attention from newspapers and surfing enthusiasts all over the world. Everyone wanted to know more about the world class surfer who survived a bull shark attack but lost his voice. He had already had one of the most devoted fan followings of any professional surfer, but now he felt like he was constantly being stalked by paparazzi.

Seriously, all I wanted to do was buy a new surfboard. Can't I do that in peace?

More people called out to him, asking to date him, invitations to events, wanting to get closer.

Apparently not.

He smiled at the cameras and accepted the chocolates. He graciously declined offers of romance. The crowd moved closer to him. Yeesh, so many people!

Then he got an idea. He glanced down at his watch and yelped. "Good grief! It's 7:00 already? I'm so sorry, everyone, I have to go!" He smiled apologetically and speed walked away (although most people would have considered the pace a fast jog).

Hajime made it back to his hotel and sighed in relief. That was a lot of people. At least I finally got a new surfboard. He smiled and rubbed his hands over the new surfboard. I'm going surfing once I get home. Three months is way too long to not surf.

The smile fell off his face. It's been three months since I've seen Oikawa either. Dear Asahi, I miss his trashy personality so much. It's boring without him around.

He started to pack. I'm going home tomorrow! I'm finally leaving! I can't wait to get back to Oikawa and surfing! Ugh, it's been so long.

But I can talk again! He thought, elated at the reminder, smiling at the mere thought. It's been a long, painful three months, but I can talk normally again! I can hold conversations with salespeople, and thank people when they hold the door open politely, and say ow or ouch from reflex when I get hurt! I never realized how much people rely on speech before now. It was so frustrating not being able to communicate properly. At least I learned sign language. He'd kept up studying sign language even after Futakuchi confirmed he was healing. It was rather useful since his throat had hurt quite a lot, and besides, it was something to do.

A little later, he closed the app. He was done for now. He sighed, feeling rather melancholy. He put music on. He'd been listening to music a lot lately. Music reminded him of Tooru's beautiful voice.

You and I, we're like fireworks and symphonies exploding in the sky
With you, I'm alive
Like all the missing pieces of my heart, they finally collide

So stop time right here in the moonlight
'Cause I don't ever wanna close my eyes

Without you, I feel broke
Like I'm half of a whole
Without you, I've got no hand to hold
Without you, I feel torn
Like a sail in a storm
Without you, I'm just a sad song
I'm just a sad song

With you, I fall
It's like I'm leaving all my past and silhouettes up on the wall
With you, I'm a beautiful mess
It's like we're standing hand and hand with all our fears up on the edge

So stop time right here in the moonlight
'Cause I don't ever wanna close my eyes

Without you, I feel broke
Like I'm half of a whole
Without you, I've got no hand to hold
Without you, I feel torn
Like a sail in a storm
Without you, I'm just a sad song

You're the perfect melody
The only harmony I wanna hear
You're my favourite part of me
With you standing next to me
I've got nothing to fear

Without you, I feel broke
Like I'm half of a whole
Without you, I've got no hand to hold
Without you, I feel torn
Like a sail in a storm
Without you, I'm just a sad song

Without you, I feel broke
Like I'm half of a whole
Without you, I've got no hand to hold
Without you, I feel torn
Like a sail in a storm
Without you, I'm just a sad song, I'm just a sad song

Hajime closed his eyes silently. Without you, Oikawa, I'm just a sad, silent song.

The next day

Iwaizumi waved goodbye to Tsukishima and Yamaguchi from the island dock. Impatience wore at him, making it hard to politely see them off. All he wanted to do was see Oikawa again.

The second they were gone, Hajime ran to his cabin to get ready. That done, he sprinted to the dock to wait for Tooru.

Time went by. The surfer fidgeted with impatience. Hurry up, Trashykawa! Come check the dock already!

Shadows lengthened. The sun began to set. Iwaizumi wanted to scream with impatience. Hurry the fuck up, Crappykawa! Check the damn dock!

A swift, shiny figure swam through the water. Hajime's throat constricted. He rubbed it reflexively. It reminds me of the bull shark, he thought apprehensively. He shuddered.

Then a brunette head rose into the air. Oikawa! Iwaizumi leaped up, bent over the edge and gestured wildly at the merman.

"Iwa-chan! You're back!" Tooru shrieked with joy. "Can you talk? Did the human doctors work?"

Hajime's face fell. He shook his head. Tooru looked devastated. "Iwa-chan, I'm so sorry."

Iwaizumi shrugged helplessly. He beckoned Oikawa forward, pointing at the place beside him. "You want me to come up?" Oikawa guessed. Iwaizumi nodded. He pushed himself up and his boyfriend pulled him onto the dock. The surfer smiled mischievously. He held up a blindfold.

"What is that for?" Tooru asked. Hajime just looked at him. Idiot. What do you think?

Oikawa got the message. "Are you kidnapping me, Iwa-chan?" he asked, eyes twinkling. Iwaizumi snorted. You wish.

He tied the blindfold around Tooru's eyes, making sure it was snug but not painful. He lifted Tooru bridal style and carried him inland. The merman giggled and wrapped his arms around Hajime's neck.

Iwaizumi made it to a special place he'd set up. He sat Oikawa down on a chair and made sure he could balance before moving away. "Iwa-chan?" he asked, confused. "What's happening?" He started to remove the blindfold. Iwaizumi rushed over and held it in place. Not yet, he thought. Oikawa went still.

"Iwa-chan?"
