The Secret He Kept

Maya's pov

I woke up to noises all around me realizing that Riley and Lucas were having their morning conversations.
Of course I had to get used to that pretty quickly but I never realized that it did get lonely when she was with him.
I shake my head smiling as I sat up stretching.

"Sorry! Did we wake you up?" Lucas asked and I smiled.
"No, Huckleberry. You guys didn't," I say with a soft voice.

Lucas was one of the few men except Josh and Cory who knew about my father and my circumstances.
For what it was actually worth I didn't have to tell him because Riley did, same with Matthews.
The only guy I actually did tell was Josh back in my middle school days.

Flashback

I sat in a little park just looking at the pond wondering what was going to happen.
It was just another day of my life.
Wakinb up without seeing Mom, trying not to go to the Matthews place but probably going to give in soon.
Right now I haven't and was just enjoying the view.

"What on earth are you doing here, Gorgeous?" I heard a voice turning my head finding the same boy I saw just days ago looking at me.

Gorgeous was definitely something I was never called before but I didn't hate it.

"Josh? I can ask the same. I'm trying not to go to your brother's. Clearly I'm almost giving in," I say Josh came to sit down next to me.
"Probably. Where are your parents, if I may ask?" he said and I smiled.
"You may. My father left years ago and my mother is at work," I say causing Josh to look at me.
"Your father left years ago? How long is years?" he asked and I exhaled looking up at him.

His eyes were a dark blue which I thought I could get lost in forever.
I took a deep breathe looking back at the water before throwing a pebble into the water.

"It's almost been nine year," I say causing Josh to look at me as I looked back at him.
"He left when I was five years old. Your family knows," I say.
"Then it will just be our secret that I know. Go to Cory's. The game night is tonight. I'll see you there," Josh said as I was gone.

End of flashback

And they never did.
To this day Riley doesn't know that Josh really does know about my father.
Everyone thinks that he probably knows that my dad isn't around as much which wasn't the truth.
Well not entirely.
But one of the hardest things for me was eventually to tell everyone around me that I was okay.
With Josh it was always, the few times I have saw him, easy.
