I had to swallow back my fear.
Once the door was open, there were old and fragile wooden steps down into a dark basement. Off to the side at the very bottom I could see the glow of a red light.
"Let's go Raven." Oscar urges me. I start to descend the steps as dim lights mounted on the wall flicker on. Oscar closes the door, bolting it shut and starts to pull me down the stairs. I look over at him and in the dim light he has a gloomy and sad look on his face. If he feels so terrible about this then why is he doing it?
My eyebrows furrow in confusion and just continue to walk down.
When we reach the bottom, Oscar makes us turn the corner and walk through a walk way from which the red light was coming from. In the dim light I could make out bars of iron with brick intervals every few metres. I turn my head to the side and look at Oscar with a look of confusion. "What is this?" I question, when Oscar doesn't reply I try again "Oscar what the hell is this?!" I demand. Still no reply. Before I could probe further I hear a weak voice. "Raven..."
My head whips around to the cells looking for the owner, refusing to believe it's who I think it is. I rip my way out of Oscar's grip and race past the cells looking into each of them. I see crumpled and broken bodies in the dim light, ignoring the lump forming in my throat as I whip past trying to look for the voice, praying it's not who I think it is."Raven..." It comes again, stronger and closer this time. When I hear the voice a third time, I can feel the prickle of tears in my eyes and I bite my lip. As I continue past the cells, I see a blond flash of hair and bolt back to the cell and feel the blood drain from my face and my stomach drop.
"Raven?..."
A sob racks my body and escapes and I slap my hand over my mouth while my other arm wraps around my middle, trying to ease the grieving pain that's beginning to form.Ben...
"No, no, no, no" I mutter desperately as I pull out the gun and fire at the lock on the bar door. I rip the door open and bolt inside, dropping down next to my weak cousin with my ears ringing from firing in close range. Tears begin to run hot and heavy down my cheeks, dropping to my knees as I pull Ben's heavy body onto my lap and wrap my arms around him.
I can hear his shallow and ragged breathing as I hold onto him desperately, refusing to let him go.
I can feel him panting and the massive amounts of sweat his body is producing. I look down and into his eyes that flutter open and see the clear crystal blue eyes that I've associated with my comforting cousin. I place my hand on his cheek and find that his skin is searing hot, almost burning. He moves his face into my palm and lifts his hand to cover my cheek, causing me to smile through a sob. "Hey" I whispered my voice thick with emotion. Ben smiled up at me, tears welling up in his eyes, another sob broke free.I was facing the front of the cell with Ben in my lap and started checking him for injuries. When I couldn't find any life threatening ones, I became even more confused. "B-Ben, Wha-what's wrong?..." I stuttered out, my eyes sore and still producing tears. Bens smile faded and went to speak but was cut off by another voice.
"Raven." A strong and commanding voice asked.
Oscar
I raise my head and look up at the person who put my cousin in these retched cells with a look of pure loathing, my eyes burning not just from tears but from the ferocity I try so hard to keep contained.
"YOU BASTARD" I screamed and threw one of the knives straight at Oscars chest but he caught perfectly and threw it aside. This only angered me as I got up and charged at Oscar, with long daggers in both hands. I swiped at his head but he easily dodged and grabbed my wrist and crippled it, causing me to drop the dagger. After Oscar released it I held it close to me, waiting for the pain to ease slightly. I snarled at him and went to swipe at him again, fuelled by the hate and anger towards him but once again he dodged again and tripped me sending me sprawling.
