Today we seem broken,
With every expectation whirling around us,
You must be this and that,
To be this so called 'perfect'
One girls too big in the waist,
The other looking 'anorexic',
"No you don't need a thigh gap,"
"Ew, you're legs are fat."
What do you want from me?
Will I ever be good enough?
All I am is a human,
And even being that is tough.
Apparently you're beautiful without makeup,
But then they turn around and point out your flaws,
Wondering as to why you aren't confident,
They're just all hypocrites built on a thrown of lies.
Oh, and now 'gay' is an insult?
How a sexuality can hurt one?
Just because two of the same gender,
Decide to show affection?
Our world is screwed up,
And I'm done with it,
They wonder why we don't feel beautiful,
When they were the ones of created it.
Insecurity runs straight to the core,
And now it's even worse,
With words that insult,
Words that curse.
So many cry for help,
So many try to create change,
By just saying "you're beautiful,"
But really, it hardly helps.
A couple compliments,
Don't cover up each insult,
The profanities thrown at me,
Will always be faults.
I'll never live up to their standards,
Forever buried deep into what I must do,
Maybe one I exceed them,
I'll feel pretty again.
From the point of view of a girl,
Growing in today's society,
I must admit,
Why is it even worth trying?
No matter what we do,
To change ourselves for the 'better,'
Just to have a 'prettier' face,
There will always be more things that would make us 'perfect.'
This will sound cheesy,
But be yourself,
Changing for some stupid people,
Only makes matters worse.
You are the only you,
So don't change that,
Wear what you want to wear,
And be who you want to be.
From a girl who hates society,
From a girl who's insecure,
Stay awesome,
Because you're only you.
