[For the sake of the story and its timeline, please pretend Fred and George are (for some reason) still at Hogwarts for Harry and Ron’s sixth year]
It was five o’clock on a Saturday. Fred, George, and Ronald Weasley sat and argued on Ron’s bed inside of the sixth year’s Gryffindor dormitory.
Ron sighed. “For the last time, Fred and George! I can’t do that to him!”
“The effects don’t last long!” Fred insisted. “A day at the most! And it’s not even as powerful as we advertise it to be! That’s just business talk, mate! Don’t fall for that rubbish!”“I can’t give it to Harry. I’d never force anyone to confess to, or reject me, if they weren’t ready to.” Ron said, standing his ground.
For the last few months, Ron had developed somewhat of a crush on Harry and somehow, Fred and George had found out about it earlier that day. Now, they were trying to persuade Ron into slipping a truth potion into Harry’s drink, so he can find out whether Harry liked him back or not.“Seriously, though, Ronnie - it’s not harmful at all. Harry won’t lose his consciousness or anything - he’ll be fully aware of himself and his actions. Two worst case scenarios - one, if he really values his privacy, he can just hold his hands in front of his mouth all day, so whatever he says comes out as gibberish. Or two, he spills a few embarrassing secrets. Nothing major.”
“It’s morally incorrect.” Ronald persisted. “Even if it’s not as powerful as it’s advertised to be and even if the worst possible outcomes aren’t that bad. Anyways, I overheard mum saying this is one of your first versions of this product - what if something’s wrong with the recipe?”
“That sounds like something Hermione would say, Ronniekins. Anyways it really isn’t harmful - we made sure to use safe ingredients. In fact, Dumbledore even checked it out and got Snape’s approval for us. Just sure to give it to Harry when you’re alone and that should avoid any embarrassing scenario from happening. That way, if he lets something slip at least the whole school won’t know about it. Do that and you should be fine. But don’t take our word for it,” Fred tossed Ron a bottle of their own love potion, which Ronald catched with a bit of clumsiness. “all of our products are GFW approved, ya know? Just tossin’ in a fun fact to help ya sleep at night.” Fred continued.
“That’s true! Gred and Forge Wheezy give us their full and complete approval when it comes to our business stuff. What a lovely bunch of fellows they are.” George snickered.“Oi! Quit joking around! How in Merlin’s pants did you get Dumbledore to approve something which is banned at school? Your claims are a tad bit sketchy if ya ask me.” Ron tossed the bottle back to Fred.
George shrugged and plucked the bottle of love potion out of Fred’s hands. “What can I say? Dumbledore ships Rarry.” He leaned in to whisper to his twin. “And lowkey, Drarry, but Ronnie can’t know about that.”Ron didn’t hear the latter part of what George said, so he continued on with their conversation over the potion as quickly as they’d left it. “My decision is final. I’m not giving Harry the potion.”
George cleared his throat and turned his attention back to Ron. “Alright, mate. In that case, we won’t insist anymore. However, we will give it to you this time, free of charge - just because we want to see our little bro be happy. You decide whether to use it or not.” He placed the bottle of potion on Ron’s nightstand and stood up, smiled at Ron, and pulled Fred along with him, making his way to the exit of the dorm.“But just so you know, Ginny’s also been wanting to make a move on dear ol’ Harrykins, and she’s just bought one of the bottles of this very same product we were offering to you!” Fred warned Ron, as he was headed out.
He then leaned towards his right to whisper to his twin as the latter closed the dorm’s door behind them, “But hey, Ginny’s got Dean, anyways.” He chuckled.
“Well, yes, but no - Seamus is also planning to make a move on Dean.” George reminded him.
“Dang! Talk about love triangles!”
