Song to this chapter: Little Boots- New In TownI couldn't sleep that night. All those dreams and thoughts. My thoughts ran into various bad things and I thought about our future. It will be over in a month. So I have to stay connected to those witches for a month, and then I'll be free. Klaus slept sweetly so I tried to get out of bed carefully and headed for the kitchen.
I poured blood from a bag into the glass. I haven't hunted anyone in 4 months because I'm pregnant. Klaus says it's safer for me to drink blood from a bag until I give birth. I finished my blood and washed my cup. I wiped my hands on a rag and turned to leave when I bumped into someone. I almost fell, but I was caught by two powerful hands.
“You know we have people here for cleaning, don't you?” I looked up at Klaus's face, which smiled amusedly.
"Well ... I-I ... I couldn't sleep," I stammered.
"Oh ... is that the bed? It's definitely the bed ... I'll go get you a new one right away." he was about to head east.
"No no." I caught him laughing by the arm. If I hadn't stopped him, he would have run to the mattress shop.
"It's not like that. The bed is perfect." I smiled as Klaus frowned in confusion.
"It's just those dreams and thoughts ..." I didn't want to go into details.
"Oh ... I'm sorry. How can I help you?" he had a worried look on his face.
"You're not to blame after all. I'll be fine, I just don't think I'm going to sleep today." I said honestly.
He thought for a moment, then gasped.
"In that case, I have an idea." the hand with which I continued to hold him unknowingly gripped me tighter and pulled me to the dark wooden door on the floor.
"I thought you might want to see my paintings ... if you're interested," he smiled merrily and opened the door.
We found ourselves in a medium-sized study, one whole page of which was covered with books. Paintings of various sizes were hung on the other walls, but there were too many, so most of them were laid on the ground, which was covered with a dark red carpet. In the center of the room stood an easel with an unfinished painting sketching of the city. It was probably New Orleans, near which a lone wolf was howling. Klaus and his city, I smiled. But I was more interested in the huge wooden table, which stood in front of a large balcony door and was covered with many drawings. One by one, I started looking at them. I came across one drawing that fascinated me a lot.
"It's me?" I walked slowly to her, keeping my eyes on the portrait. It was simply drawn in pencil, but at the same time so reworked in detail that it took my breath away. Klaus looked at me, startled.
"Um ... I ... you shouldn't have seen that. And-it's not even done."
"It's beautiful." I tore my eyes away from the drawing and smiled at Klaus.
"But it's far from comparable to the original." He declared. "It's hard to put something so ... perfect on paper." he said, his eyes fixed on me, but after a moment the angle looked embarrassed.
"Love, you should try to lie down and get some more sleep. It's only 3:20 in the morning."
"Okay, but will you come with me? I won't sleep without you."
"Sure, dear."
I got some sleep in the morning. When I opened my eyes, Klaus was lying next to me, smiling at me.
"Good morning, love."
"Good morning, what time is it?"
"It will be 11:30, dear."
"Oh, why didn't you wake me earlier?"
“If you are so adorable when you sleep, you are my queen.” I poked at him and shamefully hid under the covers.
"I just thought ... um ..." Klaus's voice stuck in his throat.
"Yes?" I smiled encouragingly at him.
"Uhm .. the last days must have been hard for you ... I just thought you might welcome a little distraction, some fresh air. I wanted to ask you if you'd like to go to town with me tonight. if you want to ... you don't have to ... it was just a suggestion. "
"I'll be very happy, love." I kept smiling at him.
Tonight, the streets of New Orleans were quite busy, not to mention Bourbon Street, which was literally crowded. They all danced and celebrated the arrival of the approaching summer days. There was a positive mood in the air, which neither of us avoided. We sat together at a round table and a street jazz band was playing nearby. I was bursting with energy, clapping to the beat of the music and a wide smile on my face.
"Aren't we dancing? Show me how it was danced to jazz music in the 10th century." I suggested.
"No, love. Dancing is not one of my strengths."
"You live a thousand years, something must have stuck to you. Or don't you know the steps of ballroom dancing from the 10th century?
"All right, dear." suddenly he grabbed me in his arms and turned me around in the style of a sinful dance. Step here, step there. I was slightly surprised by the difficulty of some steps. It went so fast that I almost started to fall on my own feet. He stopped, and I hung around his neck just above the ground, holding one leg in the air with my hand.
"So?"
Taken aback, I finally got over it. “I will no longer doubt you.” Klaus smiled triumphantly and put me back on my feet. There was applause. Only then did I realize that Klaus had to show tourists a good show there.
We returned home around midnight. We wanted to go to bed when someone knocked on the front door.
"Hi, Jennifer." Rosalie said.
"Rosalie, what are you doing here?"
"Some witches want to hurt my sister-in-law and my niece. I won't let anyone hurt a pregnant woman. We girls have to stick with each other."
"How do you know it's going to be a girl?"
"I have a guess. Sister-in-law, invite me inside or we'll stand in the doorway?"
