Yasmin was the full moon illuminating in the night. Despite the never ending blackness of the sky she always shined bright. She was top of her class with accolades so high Columbia, Yale, Harvard, Cornell and Brown had personally contacted her practically begging for her to attend. As captain of the dance team, debate team, mathletes, senior class president and a well known youth activist, the girl was loved by everyone.
Well of course not everyone. There would always be the occasional jealous being who couldn't possibly fathom the idea of her being a genuinely benevolent person. But as far as Mimi was concerned those people could kiss her ass.
Unlike her sister, Yasmin was paraded around like a child's favorite toy at show and tell. Her father used her American sweetheart status to boost his image. Anytime the press covered Raymond or the company you could bet that Yasmin would be present. Her brothers would occasionally make appearances since they helped manage different branches of the company but never Mimi.
"What do you think about this one?" The teen asked holding up an eight hundred dollar mini dress with Alexander Wang stitched into the tag.
As promised, Mimi took her little sister shopping in the extravaganza of fashion that is SoHo. They'd been at it for a few hours already hopping from store to store collecting a handful of bags and boxes all encasing overpriced materialistic items. Hanging out with Yasmin was one of her favorite things to do. It was a good change of pace from meeting with her sperm donor that morning. Mimi had been in a foul mood since she left his office, but as soon as she saw Yasmin her spirit was lifted.
Mimi examines the black dress in the girls hand as well as the green polka dotted pants she currently had on. "It's a little dull for you."
"Well make yourself useful and come help me find something less dull." She smiles at the older Castillo girl and they began to sort through clothes that the clerk had recommended. The young girl lets out a heavy sigh. "Dad has me going to meet a potential client next week. Told me to look pretty. Something about him having a son." She places a dress back on the rack with a roll of her eyes. Mimi saw the look of vexation within her sister's deep brown irises. She knew the look all too well. It was one that could only be caused by one Raymond Castillo and seeing it upon Yasmin's face made her blood physically boil.
She dropped the overpriced blouse she was looking at and goes to her sisters side placing her manicured fingers on the teens tensed shoulders. "Just a few more months. I promise."
"Yeah well, your promises haven't really been promising lately."
"Yazzy listen. I swear on my life that in a few months you'll be free from it all."
