What Love Was

Your smile caught my attention,
Or was it your heart that stole my thoughts?
I didn't care what was your intention,
All I wanted was to give you love that can never be bought.

We started out all happy and smiling,
Supporting each other or was it just me?
I thought you knew how friendship can be?
Or did we go on a journey with no one driving?

You pissed me I was upset, so I cried,
You apologized, I forgot or maybe you lied,
Then we laid another block on a shaky foundation,
My loneliness was your only condition.

I succumbed and played the game,
Sooner than later you know what found me? Fame,
You couldn't stand it so you walked away,
Drifting like the clouds day by day.

I have to be happy and free,
Travel around the world even though I use my mind,
I learnt long ago happiness has no fee,
Neither should our friendship to an iron my feet bind.

I don't want to let you go God knows I've tried,
I've learnt a thing or two about humility being my pride,
Yet still I can't throw away years of hardwork,
Maybe I should just walk away but before you my hat I doff.

Who told you my heart is a game that you could play?
I still can't figure out what I should say or do,
You knock me senseless when you call me Fay.

I want to punch you, slap you and cry,
I'm not sure if what I heard today was true or just lies,
The real YOU keeps unfolding to me by and by,
Even though our only means of communication is our device.

What's your silence saying? What are your eyes screaming?
When will you just open your mouth and talk?
Now I have to pierce through your soul whether or not you're willing,
Through the passage of your being, I'd take a long walk.

I hope I find what I'm looking for,
If it's not there, well, I'd create it,
Else everyday my heart and mind will be at war,
And never again will I dance to any song or drum beat.
