Mateo

I was frozen, I couldn't move. I heard the click of the gun and I knew that the bullet was directed towards me but I couldn't get myself to move. I didn't flinch nor did I even blink, but as soon as I did Dr.Browns body was in front of me.

His blood splayed all over the cold marble floors. The distant shouting of the people all blurred into the background. Yet I didn't move.

I saw blurred figures running towards and away from me but my gaze was stuck on Dr.Browns bloodied body.

"Hey Mateo we have to get going."

I looked towards Emerald as we both gave each other genuine smiles, though there was a hint of sorrow in what I'm sure is both of our eyes.

We headed outside the cabin and was picked up by a black Rolls Royce as provided by the palace.

It has been three days since the wedding and though we finally got rid of those two monsters, we also sadly lost an angel.

I pulled Emerald to my side as she nuzzled her face in between my neck.

Though everything in the palace has been slowly but surely getting resolved, Emerald just couldn't find it in herself to be happy since I'm sure Dr.Brown held a a special spot in her heart.

If it was possible I brought her small body closer to mine not minding the small twinge of pain on my abdomen from my stab wound that was still tender and in the process of healing.

I felt my black blazer slowly dampen with her tears, and all I could do was hold her beside me whilst I stroked  her back for comfort.

At times like these, no words were needed.

We arrived at the burial sight in no time and it seemed that we were the last to arrive.

A path was cleared as Emerald and I both walked out the car, her body still pressed up against mine.

"We gather here today, to say goodbye to a man we all knew and loved. The man that has healed wounds not only on the outside but the inside and put smiles on countless faces."

The ceremony went on and there were many tears shed as everyone went and payed their respects to the great man.

I didn't know Dr.Brown for a long time but he made me feel even for a little, what it's like to have a father and for that I'll always be grateful.

I looked down towards Emerald as she shook beneath me, her silent tears dropping into the six foot hole.

Everyone slowly started leaving after saying their final goodbyes but Emerald made no sign of wanting to go.

"I didn't know it was possible to be so thankful yet so mad at someone."

I look down at Emerald as she spoke her first words since we've arrived.

"I want to thank him so much for protecting you and keeping you safe but I'm so mad that he had to leave in the process."

I sat her down on my lap on one of the chairs and cradled her not caring the pain it caused me, because all I want is for her pain to go away.
