i was in my closet, debating on what i should wear to alex's party.

after thirty minutes of going back and forth between decisions, i made my final one.

i would wear my favourite yellow tube top and my mom jeans with little sunflowers all over them.

for my hair i decided to keep it simple and curl it.

my makeup was just my typical day to day look, so i didn't have to worry about that.

i decided that i would quickly do my homework since i didn't know when i'd be back— or if i'd be sober.

——

when my sisters and i pulled up to alex's house, i was surprised to see that it was already packed full of people.

i made my way inside and went straight to the kitchen to get a drink.

once i saw john, i made the decision to go light on the drinking, i didn't want to say something embarrassing or make a bad impression.

with my drink in my hand, i made my way over to where lafayette was.

i don't have many friends and there were a lot of people here that i don't know.

after standing and talking with laf for probably about half an hour, he announced that he was going to go and talk with some other friends.

i went back into the kitchen to get another drink, at this point, i didn't care how much i had.

since i didn't know anyone else at the party, i walked over to alex's couch and sat down.

a few minutes later while i was scrolling on my phone, i saw someone sit down next to me out of the corner of my eye.

when i looked up to see who it was, it was john laurens.

"hey peggy." he greeted.

"hi john. what's up?" i asked.

"well, i don't really have many friends here, and the ones i do have are off with their other friends. i also saw you sitting here by yourself and came to give you company." john answered.

the two of us sat there talking for hours until almost everyone else had left. the people that were still here were basically just alex's friend group.

by the time it was the small group of friends left, i was pretty much drunk.

i don't normally like to drink much, but it's a new school year, and i was feeling strangely sad tonight. i know that drinking always cheers me up.

we all stayed for a while and helped clean up the house.

once clean, we all sat in a circle on the floor in alexander's living room.

"we should all play truth or dare!" alexander requested.

everyone agreed and the game began.

"hmm," alex started "peggy. truth or dare?"

of course he just had to pick me. i hate dares and i hate what they ask for truths

"truth." i answered

"if you had to kiss anyone in this room, who would it be?" alex asked.

crap. i really didn't want to expose myself here, but at the same time, the people who were sitting in this circle were too close of friends anyways.

i waited a minute before i gave my answer, so that he would think it was actually a hard question, when i reality, i knew my answer right away.

"if i had to choose someone, i would probably choose john" i said

and i couldn't help but notice john laurens start to blush.

"okay. um, jefferson. truth or dare?"

and of course he chose dare, just to show off that's he's so brave and all.

"i dare you to write your name in spray paint on the walmart that you work at." i dared.

so we all went outside and walked to the store, trying to be as quiet as possible so we didn't wake everyone up at 1:00 in the morning. we watched him do it, then went back to alex's house.

"john," thomas began "truth or dare?"

"hmm, i think i'll go with a dare. but nothing too extreme." john answered.

thomas was having a hard time coming up with something until alexander whispered something in his ear.

i saw worry cross his face as they both started smirking.

"i dare you to kiss peggy." he finally said.
