Chapter 8

By the time Monday comes your at your wits end, and more than ready to leave. Your mother joins you at the kitchen table, "do you remember Grace's son Henry?" You nod knowing what's coming next, "yeah why?" She smiles, "because he has just become single, and i think you two would make a lovely couple, sighing you shake your head, come on Y/n he's a handsome young man, just think about what beautiful babies you'd have." You have only been back home for 2 days, and he is the 3rd guy she has mentioned, "mom please, how many times do i have to tell you, I'm not interested in men? I thought that was pretty obvious when I married a woman." She tuts, "yes well, that didn't exactly end well now did it? Maybe it's time you found a nice man, settled down and started a family, you're not getting any younger, and I would like grandchildren at some point." Throwing your hands up in the air you groan, "oh my god please stop, I don't need nor want a man, i have a perfectly beautiful and wonderful girlfriend thank you." She glares at you before leaving the room.

You love your mother dearly, but sometimes you wish she could just be a little more supportive. If she had her way you would have never become an actor, or left town for that matter. You probably would've been married straight out of high school to some local boy, have a house with a white picket fence and a dozen kids and a dog running around. She wants you to live the exact same life as her, apart from the kids part, as your an only child. Your dad sits down beside you, "hey sweetie, you know she means well right?" You sigh, "no dad, she just wants me to play the dutiful wife and mother, and have a perfect house and beautiful babies. I love her, i really do, but I'm sorry she drives me crazy, and I'm not gonna settle just to make her happy." He gives you a sad smile, "and I'm not asking ya too, but you know a little buddy i could teach to fish would be nice." You rest your head on his shoulder, "who knows maybe one day I'll gift you with a fishing buddy, i love you dad." He puts his arms around you, "thats all i ask for," the two of you sit in silence, it's not very often you have moments like this with him. He's not exactly great at showing affection, but he makes up for it with simply acts of kindness.

After lunch seeing as it's a nice day, you decide to go for a walk in the park. Just as you reach the far side that joins the street, you see your ex wife getting out of her car, slowing down your pace you as you then see your old neighbour getting out of the passages side. Quickly you turn around and start to run back across the park, once your far enough away you stop leaning against a tree, and try to catch your breath. Sliding down the tree you sit on the ground, yeah you've seen Kate a few times since your divorce, but it's the first time you have seen her with him. Your heart starts beating out of your chest and your ears start to ring, you look down at your shaking hands and know a panic attack is about to hit you. Grabbing your phone out of your pocket you start fumbling trying to unlock it, you manage to dial Scarlett's number. Thankfully she answers on the second ring, you have never be so happy to hear her voice, you try to speak but your laboured breaths are making it really difficult.

She calmly talks to you when she figures out what's happening, "baby listen o me, i need you to take a nice deep breath, in through your nose and out of your mouth." You follow her instructions until your calm enough to speak, "I'm sorry Scar, I didn't know what else to do." Her voice is soft, "don't apologise, you have nothing to be sorry about okay? Do you wanna tell me what happened?" You sigh heavily, "i was in the park and, it's stupid, but i saw Kate and Pete, and I didn't want them to see me so i ran, and the next thing i know I couldn't breath. I just needed to hear you voice," after about 20 minutes she gets called back on set, "sorry baby, but i have to go, but i promise I'll call you tonight okay?" You whisper "okay," before hanging up.
