                                                           Bonnie's POV

It was Saturday night, and Princess Bonnibel Bubblegum was cold.

It had been snowing all week, a rare occurrence in the Candy Kingdom. It was beautiful, even if it did make social life difficult. It had helped Bonnie to catch up on all the things she had been putting off.

For instance, tonight she was working on the issue of the foundations of the palace. They were made of hard candy, of course, and they had started melting the summer before. It wasn't very concerning, but she knew she had to do something about it, even if she wasn't very excited. Bonnie was no architect, but she knew that putting in new foundations would be tedious and expensive.

Nevertheless, it was three in the morning and she was still sitting at her desk, sorting through a thousand legal documents, trying to ignore how cold she was.

Bonnie reached for her cup of hot chocolate and realized it was empty. She sighed and got up to go make another cup. She didn't want to wake Peppermint Butler, and besides, she could use a break.

The flagstones of her bedroom floor were cold under her bare feet as she walked to the connecting bathroom. Bonnie turned on the tap and set the kettle under the stream of water, trying not to look at the mirror. She didn't think she was particularly attractive on her best days, but tonight Bonnibel was exhausted and overworked. Her long pink hair was tied up in a messy ponytail, the ends sticking everywhere. The large black shirt she wore was one of Marceline's, and her pink sweatpants were comfortable, but not cute.

Bonnie was a mess.

Bonnie pulled the front of the shirt up until it was at her face. She inhaled deeply, trying to catch the lingering scent of the vampire who gave it to her. It was still there, somehow, and she sighed when she found it. Realizing what she was doing, she dropped the shirt back to its normal position and took the filled kettle to the camp stove on her bookshelf.

Forgetting to turn on the kettle, she turned and sat on her bed.

Bonnie and what she was doing. She was avoiding the truth. She knew what she felt, even if, glob, she wished she didn't.

She tried to hold them back, but the tears came. Bonnie put her head in her hands and cried.

And even as she cried, she tried to deny the reason.

She was in love. And she couldn't even tell her best friend, because she didn't know what she would do if Marceline knew....

Logically, she knew that she could never be with this girl. Bonnibel was a princess. This couldn't happen, even if Marceline wanted --

She heard a slight whoosh, and a familiar voice say, "Bonnie?"
