Finn the Human's POV
Finn the Human was confused. He had come to see Bubblegum, having finally worked up the courage to ask her out. He was desperate to get it over with, so he opened the door to Bubblegum's chambers quickly, trying to seem confident.
He saw Bubblegum and Marceline laying in the Princess's bed together with their faces really close together and their limbs all wrapped up.
And they were blushing. A lot.
"Oh, hey, Marceline! Nice hair!" he said. Finn assumed that the girls were having a sleepover and had woken up late. He just hoped that Marceline would leave so he could ask PB on a date.
Bubblegum and Marceline sat up really quickly, putting some space between each other.
Marceline looked embarrassed and angry for some reason. She and Bubblegum kept glancing at each other, blushing awkwardly.
"Uh, hey, Finn?" The vampire looked at him.
Bubblegum said, "Finn, what are you doing here?"
Finn took a deep breath. "I need to ask PB a question." He looked at Marceline uncomfortably.
Marceline's brows furrowed, just a bit.
Bubblegum sighed. "Okay? What do you need, Finn?"
Finn glanced at Marceline again. "Um."
The vampire glared at him. "Whatever you can say to her, you can say to me, buddy. Spit it out."
PB smiled at Marceline, with a weird look that Finn seemed to find a lot on the princess's face when Marceline was around.
Huh.
Weird.
"Okay, okay. So, PB, willyougoonadatewithme?"
Marcy's POV
Marceline couldn't believe it. Finn the Human was asking her best friend out. In front of her.
And a minute ago, Marceline had been about to kiss her!
She shook her head at her stupidity. Of course Bonnibel wanted Finn. The hero. Not Marceline the monster.
She heard Bonnie sigh.
Marceline got up quickly, floating toward the window. She didn't want to stay and witness these two making out or something.
Bonnie grabbed Marcy's hand before she could get very far, and pulled her back gently.
Bonnibel's POV
Bonnie sighed. She'd always known it would come to this eventually. Finn cared too much for her.
And right when she and Marceline had been about to kiss! Or so she thought. She wasn't really sure what had been happening.
Her lips tingled at the thought of Marceline's lips on her own...
She snapped out of it when Marceline shook her head and started floating toward the window.
Instinctively, she grabbed the vampire's hand, smiled at her, and turned to Finn.
"Finn, that sounds fun, but only as friends, okay? I'm not really..." She tried not to look at Marcy, but couldn't help herself and glanced at her quickly, to find those crimson eyes already on her.
She flushed. She could become lost in those eyes for hours...
She shook her head, frustrated. She flashed a quick smile at Marcy, trying to think of something to say to Finn without spilling her guts right here.
"Bonnie was just telling me yesterday that she doesn't really feel like dating anyone right now, actually. Right, Bonnie?"
She took in a shaky breath, silently thanking Glob for Marceline being there.
"Yes. I just don't think it's a good idea. It was... nice of you to offer, though, Finn." She bit her lip, finally looking at the human.
He looked destroyed, and she instantly felt guilty, but also kind of relieved. She knew it would be cruel to lead him on, only to crush his growing hopes. She was glad that it was finally over with.
"No, that's fine," he mumbled, looking at the floor. "I'll find something else to do.
He quickly left, embarrassed.
Marceline's POV
Marcy had never seen Bonnibel more flustered. It was honestly adorable, though she immediately tried to push the thought out of her head.
The princess collapsed on the bed dramatically, her arms spread around her. "Ugh. I've been dreading this day forever."
Marceline smiled and sat timidly beside her. "Well, at least it's over with."
Bonnie sat up, returning the smile. "I'm just glad you were here. I don't know what I would have said if you hadn't come up with that."
Marceline raised her eyebrows, at the princess, trying not to blush. "I'm pretty sure he meant to get you on your own; how often do you have people over at ten in the morning?"
Bonnibel blushed adorably and unconsciously scooted closer to Marcy.
"Never."
"Mhm." Marceline reached for Bonnibel's hand and lifted it, examining the pink knuckles and skin. She had always loved Bonnie's hands, but never had the courage to look at them deliberately. They were small and slender and warm, made for measuring out chemicals and other weird substances. She tried to ignore the tingles she felt where her hands touched Bonnie's, but when she saw the pulse speed up in the princess's wrist, she could barely contain a gasp.
Bonnie's POV
Bonnie was trying not to display and audible change in her breathing as Marceline examined her hand, but it was growing increasingly difficult.
Marceline abruptly stood, dropping Bonnie's hand. "Um, I should go. I need to go... shopping."
Bonnie frowned. "Are you sure? I... Okay." She looked down, worried that she had scared the vampire off.
Marceline smiled at the princess nervously. "I'll see you soon." She kissed the top of Bonnie's head, then floated out the window, leaving Bonnibel to her thoughts.
