After the dance, Sophia's and Hugo's parents gave them permission to go to Melanie's mansion. Melanie displayed her trophy in her bedroom. "Another trophy for me," she said smugly.
"I don't know how you made that costume, but it's outstanding," said Sophia.
But then Sophia found a piece of heavy paper on the floor. When she picked it up, she saw that there was a picture of Melanie's peacock dress on it. Melanie was horrified to see that Sophia had found a piece that was with her costume when she bought it. Hugo peeked over her shoulder and saw the picture—and he also saw something else on the paper.
"Party City?" Hugo asked.
"Melanie, how is your costume from Party City?" asked Sophia.
Melanie was getting really anxious and nervous. "Alright, I didn't actually make my costume," she said.
"So you bought it at Party City?" Hugo asked.
Melanie hung her head and said, "Yeah, I bought it at party City. When I saw this costume, I just had to buy it and wear it for the dance tonight."
Sophia and Hugo were both very unhappy with what Melanie did.
"That's not fair, Melanie—that's cheating!" Hugo snarled. He stormed out in a huff.
"Melanie, what you did was wrong," glared Sophia. "You'd better tell Principal Winston what you did." She walked out unhappily.
Melanie was upset that Hugo and Sophia were mad at her because she cheated. She wasn't sure if she should tell Principal Winston what she did.
