In the Frozen Rain

Chapter 2 - Awoken

   We woke to the roar of machines. We were startled but there were several men in front of us with guns aimed at us. "Let go of the girl Quilet and come quietly!" 

What are they talking about?

"What are you talking about she can leave when she wants I'm not even holding her." Zack replied in a defensive tone.

"If you don't move now we won't hesitate to shoot!"

 WHAT ARE THEY CRAZY! Zack stood up and walked towards the men but one of them shot his leg and a loud crack pierced my ears and I yelled.

His eyes were glowing again, his body was glowing now He yelled at me in a demonic like voice. "RUN!" He was growling viciously, his white fur turned gray. He started to grow horns and spines and one of the men grabbed my arm. He dragged me out of the cave and then their guns started firing rapidly and I heard a thunderous roar echo from the cave and then I ran. I didn't want to know what was happening and I didn't want to. Then the screams started.

They ended quickly and then there were more but I was still running. I could still hear the ear-piercing screams as I ran I was trying to run as fast as I could but I was running out of breath. The only thing that kept me going was the frightening blood-crazed werewolf behind me. I ducked into a nearby cave trying to catch my breath. It felt like the screams went on for hours. I stayed in the cave scared to face it by myself. It started to get dark out as pounds and pounds of snow covered the dark forest in a freezing blanket of snow.

I realized my parents weren't going to come for me. I was lost. I started to cry. I cried until I fell asleep.

I woke up as the sun was coming up. I walked out of the cave shivering into the silent forest. My thoughts were all over the place with questions like, Where am I? Where is Zack? I decided to walk around. 

I was definitely lost I wanted to howl to see if anyone was nearby.I know I would be loud enough for at least a hundred miles but I was scared I would get the wrong attention. After walking around for a while I sat down on a nearby hill. Am I seeing things? The snow was melting, I stood up in shock.

"Are you mad?" said a familiar voice ZACK! I turned to see him he was in his wolf form.I started to cry and ran and wrapped my arms around him.

"Why did you leave?" I said in a whisper.

"I'm sorry but there was no point in trying to protect you if I was a worse threat than what you were already dealing with."

"I was fine, were you?"

"Yes, now climb on I'm going to take you home"

"But..."

"No buts, get on "

"Are you talking in my mind?"

"Yes" I heard a small laugh come from him.

"Why are you in wolf form?"

"Uh technically I'm naked at the moment and if I turned to my human form I would've been dead by now." He laid down and motioned his head at his back.I struggled to get on his back but when I did he stood. "

Hold on cupcake." He called me cupcake again. I thought about that for a moment while smiling to myself.

I clinged on to his white fur as he ran through the forest, but it was bothering me that he had no scars, not even a single trace of blood. When we stopped by a village I saw my family and Zoey with another woman.

"How am I going to explain what happened?" 

"Just tell them the truth but don't tell them about me okay?"

"Okay" I started to walk away from him but turned as he was walking away. "Wait," He stopped and looked at me. " Thank you for helping me. Can I see you again tomorrow?"

"It's better if you don't see me again now goodbye Howling."

"Goodbye?...Wait please don't leave." I could feel the tears starting to stream down my face. "Please..." I started wiping the tears off my face when he grabbed my wrists. He had changed forms. Tears filling his beautiful eyes he put his hands on my face. I stared into those eyes for what felt like days.

"Howling do you ever think you could love someone like me?" May the gods grant me luck.

"Zack?"

"Yes?"

"Can you promise me that later in life you and I will be together again?"

"I can't promise you that cupcake." 

"Then how am I supposed to love you?"

"...Okay..." He sounded hurt but it was the truth.

"Zack I don't believe i know you enough. I want to actually get to know you more so we can stay friends for now but I just wanted you to know that." He took a step back to look at my face. He was smiling but he was still crying.

"If I wait for you will you be with me?" He held my face in his hands again.

"I...Zack..."

"Howling, I want to be your mate." I felt his soft lips brush mine then they met. I had never kissed a boy before. My legs felt like they were jello. I didn't want to stop, it felt like the entire world was spinning. Sadly, just as quickly as it started it ended he pulled away from me. "I promise that I will wait for you." Then he was gone.

I started walking down the hill thinking about what I was going to tell my family if i'm not able to tell them about Zack. Will they kill him if they know he's a Quilet?

I was nearly in the village when someone yelled "There she is!...Chief!" I was being attacked by my mother's questions. I had been missing for almost four weeks. Why isn't nobody mentioning anything about the men who shot at Zack.

The blizzard had stopped and everyone was packed including me. They didn't leave because i was missing. 

We were all back in the big snowmobiles.I decided to ask a few questions.

 "Mother why were people screaming?" My mother started to cry again.

My father touched my shoulder and I turned to him. "Apparently it was a Quilet who created the storm and it ended up killing some people." I could feel my eyes tearing up. I wiped them away.

"It was a lot of people wasn't it?" 

My father frowned and nodded.

How could Zack do that? I couldn't believe how much I underestimated Zacks powers,but what I really wanted to know was where is Zack right now? Is he safe? Will I ever get to see him again? I guess I would find out soon enough. 

I looked out the window, as we passed the forest I whispered "goodbye."
