Eurydica Prognata fletu. Or Tears of Eurydice.
An extraordinary condition that exhibits paralysis, bleeding in some areas (most commonly in the eyes) upon eye-contact and/ or any kind of physical contact. Could lead to untimely death if not examined properly and monitored periodically.
Is not contagious, and is an in-born disease. As of now, no medicine or cure can be administered to the 0.27% inflicted with this disease.
Lionel Gray Everheart was one of the 0.27% afflicted with this disease. It had been said, Eurydice's Tears was originally named after the mythology of the same named woman who was dragged back to the Underworld after a failed attempt of escape with her lover.
Since the failure, Eurydice had cried to Hades for another chance, to the point her eyes bled out from her excessive crying. And to Persephone's dismay, she had no choice but to follow Hades' order of cursing her of her illness. Thus, the sucky illness was made. And whoever is inflicted with this, may never see the light of day. Figuratively, with a sense of literal meaning.
Lionel, has never seen his parent's faces after he was diagnosed as an infant.
In infancy, his eyes would bleed whenever his parents would glance at their newly born child, sobbing at the condition, little Lionel was a ball of sunshine, nothing but little giggles escaping his mouth as his eyes continued bleeding.
As he reached being a toddler, he was taught by the attending family doctor to not ever make physical contact and or eye contact, whoever it may be, if he still wanted to live. And from then on, all his life, he kept his head down. Or if he felt exhausted, he kept his eyes closed and his only companion was the soft pillows surrounding him.
He never saw the changes in his mom and dad, how they celebrated their wedding anniversary, how his mother colored her hair by Lionel's favorite color and cut it into a bob cut. He never saw his father smile when he tucked him to sleep.
He really never saw the light of day again.
But Lionel was a strong-willed child. He loved art more than anything. It was his favorite activity aside from sleeping. His parents were more than supportive in attending to his every artsy needs. Just to see their child be happy.
Lionel kept art as if it was his best friend, his first and last.
Now, he just barely turned 18 a few days ago, he found himself at the most-frequented visited hospital his family would admit him to whenever he had his episodes.
He felt sensations within his body as he tried lifting his left index finger to see if he had enough strength to do so.
Listening to the constant beeping of the heart monitor that was equipped on to him, he could feel no one's presence surrounding him.
It became a natural talent for him to tell if someone was around him to figure out whether if not he was allowed to open his eyes, or fixate his gaze forwards. And to his luck, no one was still present, yet.
He slowly flickered his eyes opened, as the bright baby blue curtains of the hospital greeted him. His eyes slowly adjusting to the room's brightness as he did correctly predict, no one was really around.
His doe eyes were scanning the room from left to right, top to bottom to see clearly. As a small jotted note was by the bedside table along with freshly picked petunias, Lionel's favorite flowers.
It was from his parents.
We will be back shortly.
-Mommy and Daddy
They could have just sent me a message. Lionel thought with a playful smirk.
Lionel ripped the letter in half, as he closed his eyes once more. Now listening to his heart beating per minute from the monitor's sound. The curtain windows flailing because of the wind from the outside. It was peaceful for his liking.
A knock interrupted the silent screams of the room, Lionel kept his eyes shut as the door slowly opened. His ears perked up when he noticed the asymmetrical steps the person takes that were anything but familiar to him. The newcomer kept taking strides towards him as his breathing became slowly calm and collected.
Is it him? Lionel could only think of the possibility. He was for sure now, the steps the intruder took was almost hesitant and tapped on the tiled floor clearly. Like he was hesitating on entering and coming closer.
"Are you, okay?" The voice he kept dreading to hear but was anticipating spoke.
Lionel could only smile and inwardly nod in response, with a little affirmation in words.
"Y-Yeah." He spoke true.
"I thought the guard killed you, ya' know?" The guy spoke with a stifled laugh escaping from his mouth.
"I thought so too."
