The two spent the night closer to one another than ever before, even when they had found love those three years ago. At this point, caution had been thrown to the wind and they jumped into each other's arms for that safety they had known originally in the comfort of being alone. However, being alone could not do anything for their hearts and they crumbled inside as the loneliness drove them back to each other. Sure, it had taken years but sometimes the greatest happenings in the world take much longer than just a few years.
Ashton sat on the porch of their new home, looking up at the night sky the stars speckling the sky and looking absolutely awe-inspiring. His heart was beating so fast, as Luke rested in between his legs comforted by the tattoo-covered arms that found their home around his waist. They spoke such few words, but their emotions radiated off of them. It was almost like silent telepathy the two shared, breathing in and out to the tune of the breeze rushing past the leaves of the trees surrounding them.
The blond stared at the lake close only a few feet away from where they sat, checking to see if any ripples occurred from rain droplets hitting it but instead the water remained calm, and the water on his cheeks came to be known to the pretty man as tears rather than rain. "Gosh, I'm crying from how happy I am," He laughed softly, picking up a small rock resting by his bare foot, skipping it across the water and feeling Ashton turn his body so he couldn't see how many times it had skipped. The pads of his thumbs rose to wipe the few salty water drops indeed running down his lover's cheekbones.
The only light they had was that from within the cabin which thankfully was not blocked by a wall, but no bugs could get in because of the glass door. They were surely being eaten alive by mosquitos though, but the suffocating scent of bug spray was enough to sway them away from using any. "If you cry, I'll end up doing the same," Ashton warned with a slight smirk tugging at his lips, his eyes closed when he felt Luke move closer, their chests pressed together as they captured each other's lips under the stars. Nothing tastes sweet than the lips of the person you are destined to be with, or at least to Ashton nothing is sweeter. He wished they didn't have to pull away from each other each time they kissed because Luke left him high, high on love that is.
"Night used to be the worse you know, because you can look at the stars, and the moon, but if you know that the person is under that same sky and yet not beside you...it cuts you up."
Ashton was taken aback by the words, the truth they held. For years he had felt convinced that Luke had completely forgotten about him, just a memory added to the pile. He was an obstacle in the way of the pianist completing his dreams after all. Though Luke had revealed his feelings before and explained to the punk the pain of missing him caused him to recklessly go to his art show with no forewarning prior. His brain had a difficult time processing the fact that they both yearned for each other, but were so heartbroken, and thus terrified to see each other again.
His hands trembled a bit as he smiled and now had his own tears. He went to wipe them away, but Luke beat him to the chase. They smiled at each other in the darkness of the beautiful night. Ashton groaned a bit as he stretched his arms up towards the stars before his hand went to the porch and helped him stand up. He fished some matches out of his pocket and worked on starting a campfire so the two could stay by the fire, rather than the harsh cold. Luke found his place by the fire, watching as it crackled, the red and orange reflecting in his blue eyes for a moment before he turned to look at Ashton who took his place beside him. "Are you afraid?" Ashton asked softly, his arms wrapping around Luke. He had to make up for the time they lost.
A laugh left the blond softly, "No, I was more afraid of never having this again. But now I have it, and it's like a dream come true." He took his phone out of the back pocket of his jeans, switching the camera so it was the front one and snuggling up against Ashton before snapping a few pictures. One with Ashton looking at the fire, the second one where he realizes and looks at Luke with a goofy smile because his boyfriend truly is an idiot, and the last one the two kissing with the fire warming their skin and creating pleasing lighting for the image.
Ashton's long fingers ran themselves through Luke's long hair, "You going to post those?" Observing how Luke shook his head quickly to answer. "I don't mind if you do."
Luke's eyes lit up for a moment but he moved fast to hide the excitement ignited within him. To reveal to the world that he belonged to Ashton, and the artist belonged to him, god this is what he has been wanting for so long. He felt as light as a feather and almost wanted to fall back onto the dirt behind him just out of bliss. He typically didn't care about his social media posts, because he truly didn't have the patience to use something like facetune or think about a caption for hours. Instead, he simply posted the collection of photos to both Instagram and Twitter with the caption: "To those wondering who the song is about."
It didn't take long for both men to have their phones exploding with notifications, mostly the press begging for interviews. Ashton hugged Luke as he shut off his phone from annoyance. Luke seemed to be scrolling through replies from his fans, smiling from ear to ear at the outpour of support from his fans. He truly had expected more homophobia, but the world had grown to be a lot more accepting.
It had clicked rather quickly for the world that the man beside Luke despite not being tagged or named at all from the blond for three years was Ashton Irwin. Of course, the past was mentioned, and people spoke asked if the lovers had truly been dating three years ago when the media had exploded in regards to the situation. He wasn't sure how to answer such a question, and even more, confused on how he could evade it because it surely would keep returning. His eyebrows were furrowed as he for a delayed second or two failed to notice the warmth of the fire was gone, and the man who stole his heart at this cabin three years ago had been offering his hand out to help him stand.
In the end, Luke decided to accept an interview on a late-night show hoping that because of the late time it would slip through the cracks and only be noticeable to very few. However, he was dead wrong seeing as the world was collectively losing its mind over the fact that not only had A list celebrity Luke Hemmings admitted he was gay, but also had admitted that he truly was in a relationship with famous painter Ashton Irwin.
The two shut off the lights within the cabin upon entering and made their ways to bed, to sleep beside each other, it had been so long. Even simple activities like staring at each other, just out of love. It sent tingles down his arms and legs and left Luke breathless. That's love, isn't it?
