"Why are you so overdressed? We're just decorating cookies." Bianca joked as I walked into the sorority house. It was nearly six and I anticipated being picked up by my date at eight. I had been lucky enough to make it before sunset, otherwise, I knew I would be freezing my ass off. My date tonight would probably be my third one in the short time I had been here.
"Oh, I have a date after this." I smiled, adjusting my short black dress and pulling my strap over my shoulder. I had made sure to basically dip my body in high-lighter so that my shoulders, collarbones, and cheekbones looked flawless and pronounced. I felt good and I certainly knew I looked good enough to eat.
"Oh cool! With who?" Bianca asked, curiously as I tried to stop my eyebrow from raising itself up. Why did she care so much all of the sudden? It wasn't like my dating life affected her or any of the other sorority sisters. Or perhaps, this was her way of digging to see if I was going to go on a date with her friend's ex. I recalled what Claire had said to me earlier, acting all condescending and superior because she had experienced love.
I didn't even think that I was capable of loving somebody. I yearned for touch and that was all. I didn't find myself thinking too much about others or caring enough to consider a relationship.
"His name is Kevin," I smiled as Bianca grinned.
"Ooh! Have fun girl, but not too much fun. Don't soil the good name of this sorority." She winked as I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my flat stomach. "But, you might want to wear something over that skimpy little dress of yours for now, cookie decorating can get messy; especially when you're doing it with boys from Kappa Xi." She winked as I eyed her warily. Her dark curly hair was floating all over the place as her kind eyes watched me. I was almost jealous of Bianca's dark skin, wishing I could have been born with her beautiful complexion and never having to worry about my face turning bright red.
My dress was vintage, I couldn't let it be defiled by frosting. "Do you have any extra shirts or sweaters I could borrow?" I asked Bianca as she shook her head. Claire decided to jump in at that moment.
"I do, I have a lot of Abel's old shirts and sweaters, come on upstairs with me, you can just choose one." She smiled, almost too excitedly. I wondered what her game plan was. Nobody was this unsuspectingly nice. Why was she still going to events even though she knew her ex would be there. I didn't want to stir the pot or step on any toes, and knowing Abel, he would certainly question me if he saw me wearing a piece of his clothing. Especially considering his desire to have me as his friend. Me wearing his shirt around the Kappa Phi girls and the Kappa Xi boys could give off the wrong message.
"Uh, actually, it's fine, I'll just be careful." I said as Claire gave me a disappointed, almost hostile, look. I turned away and walked toward the cookie table. There were a few guys from Kappa Xi here already, I decided to introduce myself. Perhaps one of them could eventually turn into a friends-with-benefits situation that I had heard so much about. It was one of the things I had hoped to experience in college.
"Hi," I walked over to them, "I'm June, like the month." I smiled as the three boys there looked up. They instantly started checking me out as I stood staring at them. They were cute, but obviously somebody I had met recently easily outshined them when it came to beauty.
Stop thinking about the sexless gentleman, June. I thought to myself as I took a deep breath.
"I'm Kyle, this is Brad and Dylan." He said as I nodded, of course these would be the names of the boys in a fraternity; so basic and expected. I was expecting a Chad to be in there somewhere.
"So what are you drawing on your cookies?" I asked as they giggled amongst themselves. They were no different than the girls in this sense, they held up their cookie as I smirked. They'd drawn a penis on it. Lovely, but I was sure the girls from Kappa Phi would not be using that one to donate to whatever charity this event was for.
