His fingertips brushed over the yellowing, centuries-old parchment held delicately in his numbing hands. The memories that arose from casting his bitterly glaring eyes over the messily written words came with a price; bile rising in his throat, ghostly hands pinching and twisting his insides mercilessly, and an anger he had spent centuries burying under every remembrance he had collect in the duration of the long, unceasing years he spent roaming the Earth.
Every other letter she had sent him encompassed neat, elegant handwriting that could only belong to a woman, a socialite with a personality as delicate as the way she danced the ink-drenched tip of a quill across a fresh piece of parchment. But not this one — this particular letter was written in a frenzy. The raven ink was . blotched in certain places, darker in others as though she stopped to think carefully about her following choice of sentences. He did not know if she did so to make her words less painful to him; he certainly hoped so, that maybe part of her never ceased loving him even after all the chaos he brewed in her life, but he was not a fool to believe that. She was angry. Furious. More devastated, more broken than she had ever thought to be. She wanted every word, every alphabet to plant venomous roots in his cold heart and spread a poison that would pump through veins so long as he may live.
