Chapter 2

We arrived at a large gate; Felix knocked on the gate in a rhythmic way. At the top people showed up looking over the edge down at us. The large gate in front of us started moving, I took a step back worried that these people would attack me because I was a stranger to them. They might know Felix but they don't know me.

"Felix!" A girl came running out of the gate and jumped into his arms, "hey Lilith, how have you been?" Felix started walking in the gate; I slowly followed. "Who's the girl you brought with you?" The girl named Lilith asked "oh right, this is Sparrow. Father and I found her I in the woods alone, her hunting skills are out of this world. Her traps are almost invisible; I even got stuck in one." I looked around at all the people here; they were all whispering to each other, none of them was very dirty and looked Felix's age or younger.

"Hi Sparrow, I'm Sylph," a pretty girl said to me, she was taller than me and had short hair, kind of like Felix's. "Hey, Sylph why don't you take Sparrow to get cleaned up. A nice warm bath should be good for her, she could also do with some clothes that fit her," Felix said to Sylph, "You always thinking that you're the boss, you should know that your fath-" Sylph stopped short. Everyone had gone quiet now, they all realized now that Felix's father wasn't here. "I'm sorry Felix, I should've noticed, please forgive me," Sylph said looking at the ground in shame. "It's fine Sylph. As of now, I am the leader of this camp, me being the oldest. Sylph will be my second in command. As you all know that means when I am not here, she is the boss. No questions about it, Ethen, I know you are the second oldest but I trust Sylph the most. Now Sylph, Sparrow needs to be fixed up," Felix looked angry as he spoke, almost as if he blamed himself for his father's death.

Sylph softly grabbed onto my arm, startling me, she gestured for me to follow her. As we walked, I noticed people looking at me. I felt extremely uncomfortable, Sylph must have noticed since she started to walk faster, now dragging me along. We got to a little building, Sylph pushed me in and told me to undress. I pulled off my torn jumper and looked over at Sylph who filling a tub with water. "What are you doing?" I asked her as she started to turn off the tap, "I'm making you a bath so you don't have to be so dirty, silly. You're smelly and covered in dirt. That's probably one of the reasons people were looking at you and the fact that your clothes are way too small for you. I'm surprised they are still in one piece," Sylph said laughing a little. I looked down at what I was wearing, "what's bad about my clothing?" Sylph started laughing "your clothes are destroyed, now c'mon and take them off so you can get in the bath."

The bath was hot. Hot water. Since when? "So, how's the water?" Sylph had come back with clothes in her arms, "it's warm, soothing." Sylph smiled, "yeah. I've always loved baths. Here we have to share the bath with everyone. We can change the water if we go and find more. But since it's the rainy season the dam has been filled and just outside there is a river. We always have to boil that water beforehand just in case any zombies have bled into it or something. No one is sure how the virus is spread but we're pretty sure that it comes if a zombie bites or scratches you, and in these movies from before the zombies showed up, they had zombies and stuff in them! It's like they could tell the future or something!" "Um... Sylph. What's a 'movie'?" I asked Sylph looked at me as if I was crazy "you don't know what a movie is!?" She yelled, "um... no?" I was so confused, like... what's a movie? Telling the future? "Oh my gosh! Sparrow we are going to watch movies tonight! You need to watch them!" I looked away from Sylph at the water, it was all murky from all the dirt I had on my body. "C'mon Sparrow, time to get out. You'll get all wrinkly at this rate," Sylph said breaking the silence. I looked up at her, then stood up, she wrapped some type of clothing around me and started to wipe the water off my skin. After she finished rubbing my hair, she handed me some clothes, I smiled and thanked her.

"Hey Sylph, what is this?" I asked looking at this funny looking piece of clothing, Sylph looked at me and then the piece of clothing I was holding up, she started laughing "it's a bra, silly. You use them to keep your tits under control," I looked at it "how does it work?" "Here," Sylph said as she grabbed the bra and wrapped it around my body. "It's uncomfortable," I said as I started to put on the rest of my clothes, "I know but it's either that or the pain of them jiggling around," Sylph giggled, I chuckled, and soon after we were pissing ourselves laughing.

"What are you two giggling about?" A boy came in the door and looked me up and down, "it's none of your business, Ethen," Sylph answered in a rather rude way "it will be when Felix is gone!" Ethen said back, "Don't try anything! Felix will find out if you're planning something behind his back," Sylph glared back, "Ethen! Get out of there! No one is allowed near that new girl! Only Sylph and Felix are allowed to go near her!" a boy walked around the corner and stood in-between Sylph and Ethen, facing Ethen, "Ethen. Leave. Now. If you don't, I'll need to report you to Felix again," the boy said as Ethen glared at him, "fine. Jewel you're such a pest!" Ethen said as he left the room. Jewel turned around and sighed "sorry about that. He can't keep his nose out of people's business," "Thanks Jewel," Sylph started, "go tell Felix that Ethen is planning something again, thanks," "Sure thing Sylph, see you around, new girl," Jewel said as he left the room.

Sylph grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the bathroom and pushed me into another building. This one was bigger and had clothes everywhere, "this is my room. I'm the clothes maker here in Rebirth. I fix clothes and make them from materials the hunters find out in the woods and stuff," Sylph said smiling, "Sit here." I sat on the chair Sylph pulled out and looked at this thing in front of me. I tilted my head at this strange thing and it copied me. I stood and looked at it, how was it doing that? I touched it and it felt cold but it was still copying me, "what's wrong, Sparrow?" It copied Sylph as well. I crouched to the ground and screamed.

"What's happening in here!?" Felix's voice said in an alerted manor "I don't know! I asked her what was wrong but then she just started screaming!" I heard Sylph's voice. "Hey, Sparrow? Are you okay?" Felix's voice sounded full of worry, "it's doing what I'm doing!" I yelled back, "what is?" he asked, "that!" I yelled pointing at the thing that was copying me. Felix started laughing, I looked at him wondering why he was laughing at me, "it's a mirror. It's copying you because it's a piece of metal that reflects. Kind of like water in a stream," Felix chuckled. I looked at him. I felt so stupid, I looked at the ground embarrassed as hell. I have never felt so humiliated in my life! I looked up at Felix then stood up. I walked over to the chair and sat down, everyone left laughing and giggling about what just happened. Sylph walked over to the door and closed it, sighing. She then walked over to me and grabbed a strange thing off the desk "this is a brush. I'm going to fix your hair up," Sylph smiled, I looked in the 'mirror' and watched her hand move up and down running the brush through my damp hair.

After a few minutes, my hair was brushed and up in a ponytail near the top of my head. "You're so lucky to have such blonde hair Sparrow," Sylph said as we walked through the town, "blonde?" I asked as we walked into another building, "blonde is the colour of your hair. It's bright and kind of yellow," said a voice I had never heard before. I noticed a figure walking out of the dark and into the light of a candle. "Hey Pearce, long time, no see," Sylph said walking toward the boy, "so, this is the infamous Sparrow huh? Doesn't look like much to me," Pearce said as he looked me up and down, I was getting that a lot today, "so your hunting skills outmatch that of Felix's huh?" He looked me in the eyes, "I guess. He did fall into one of my traps and flailed around like a fool," I said back keeping eye contact with him.

"Did you have to tell him that? It's embarrassing," Felix said opening the door in front of us, "well everyone can laugh at you now," I said crossing my arms and looking away, "you were the one who screamed blue murder!" Felix said raising his voice slightly, I glared in his direction, he smirked, "you love me," he joked "as if!" I yelled as I walked into the room he stood in, pushing him out of the way, I sat on the big chair on the corner and looked at him as Sylph and Pearce walked into the room. "We need to talk about the role you are going to play here in Rebirth."
