Yukon Marston POV:
Charlie, Ezra, Jake and I go out looking for our horses after leaving Doc's. I already had Bullet when I rode in and tied him up, but they don't have any luck with theirs. They decide to shack up in a small hut a couple miles outside of town. It's getting late and the person who had owned that house died a couple months prior.
We wake up early before the sun is even up and decide the horses are long gone so we should just head back to town. The sun is starting to come up when we reach town and I can see before we even get there a lot of people are already up and walking around town.
Yukon: "I thought y'all said Lemoine was a late riser town."
Charlie: "It is. This isn't normal."
Ezra: "And I thought we got up early, seems like the whole town is already up and at 'em."
We ride into town and the sun is up, but it's just dark enough that we can only see silhouettes.
Jake sees a guy he recognizes and calls out.
Jake: "Hey, Mac."
Mac stops and turns around and the guys all stop dead in their tracks, myself included. Half of Mac's face is gone, all that's left is half muscle tissue and half of it straight down to the bone. The rest of his body isn't much better.
He starts shambling towards us, not a full scale sprint, but not exactly slowly either. It's the most terrifying thing I've ever seen up to this point. I whip out my pistol and blast his legs. He stumbles for a moment, but keeps going, as if he didn't feel the shot. Then it dawns on me, and the rest of the boys.
Charlie: "Holy shit, it's spread!"
Nobody else has time to call out. Jake and Ezra retreat while Charlie and I stand our ground and shoot Mac.
Ezra: "His head, his head!"
I fire a round into Mac's skull, or what's left of it. Mac goes down with a boom.
Everyone else on the street turn their attention to us and start shambling towards us. Some of the folk are missing all assortments of limbs, from fingers, to hands, to entire arms.
Most of em are just missing large chunks of flesh, one man in particular had no flesh left at all on his head and it was just a skeleton head on a decayed body. Mac starts to rise from the ground so for good measure I stomp my boot into what's left of his head. His skull caves in upon impact and the brain -or what's left of it- flows out of the new hole in his head. I reckon he's down for the count after that.
Ezra: "The whole fuckin' town?! What the hell happened?!"
We shoot off a couple rounds before realizing the whole town is gone, and no one is left to save except ourselves. After knocking a few more down we turn around and high tail it out of there.
Now, I found this out later, but remember the nurse? Yeah, she went off somewhere and died during the night. The bad news was that Charlie said that she was living in the town inn for the time being since a lantern had tipped over and started a small fire where she lived. Anyway, nobody knows who she bit first, but you know how it goes. She ate someone, then they came back and ate someone else, Lemoine was probably gone within an hour, I reckon.
Jake: "Run!"
Yukon: "The fuck you think we're doin' dumbass?!"
We scatter as the hoard approaches. Jake and Ezra duck into the saloon while Charlie disappears somewhere else. I pull myself up on the roof and hide behind the big sign on top of the roof.
