BEN Drowned

It was a bit strange to have your own place. You had to admit the truth- living on your own for the rest of your senior year was going to be tough. You'd considered getting a room mate, but come on. If they don't help you pay the rent and they just mooched off of you, there wasn't much of a chance of you shooing them out. You just weren't really the... Pushy, stand-up-for-yourself type.

But, you chose this. Parents always knew what to say to cut the deepest, and you just couldn't handle it.

You weren't dumb though. You had saved up from working for almost a year- pretty much from the moment you decided to leave. It made sure you had enough for the security deposit, and the first months rent. Annnd a little something-something left over to satisfy your gamer addictions.

You had made sure to bring something along with you- a Nintendo 64. Once you wiped the dust away, it looked like new! (Just kidding. Looked like crap, but it worked.)

Unfortunately, you'd had no games.

And fortunately, you had a Game Exchange.

From the trip you'd made earlier, you'd acquired none other than Legend of Zelda, Majora's Mask. You, of course, had heard the story. One game cartridge. One haunting. It went away, anyhow. There was, literally, no reason this game should bear any similarities to the one featured in all the stories.

... But it did.

The title screen absorbed the width of your television as you booted on the system, and it immediately brought you to the player menu. And- you guessed it. One saved file.

"NEB," it read.

"Could you be any more obvious?" Your voice rang out with irritation. It was immediately clear to you. Someone had actually taken the time to copy a Creepypasta, but- wooo. With Ben spelled backwards. How clever.

But then the system shut down for no obvious reason. So you immediately rebooted, to find the title screen as usual. Flashed right up, and then off to the saved files. However, as in previous stories, the saved files seemed to have changed their names entirely, and on their own.

"YES," it now read.

So you mouthed it, then squeaked out the word, "Yes..?" You paused, tilted your head, and grimaced, a bit flustered that you'd gotten a fudged up game.

Soon, however, it clicked.

Could you be anymore obvious? YES.

Had that file just responded to... No... You gave a little shiver from the chills, but attempted to shrug it off.

"Alright, Yes," you began in a challenging, braver than reality manner, "Let's take you for a spin." And like that, you were talking to yourself.

Upon loading the saved file, you found yourself in a room you could not immediately identify. You had no options, no controls, and no player. Just a forest-fenced clearing with some boulders.

But then, a green ring flashed in the center screen, rippled, grew, and produced an unnaturally realistic pseudo-statue. We're talking 2014 graphics on a fifteen year old Nintendo 64 game. Maybe even better than that- it looked lifelike. Really lifelike.

You raised an eyebrow, but almost immediately the Link Statue seemed to be aware of you and acknowledged and your presence, you jolted back from the screen.
