An Euphonist Heart

It was a familiar sunset for most of the band members after a really long time, a year to be exact. The Kitajuji concert band was in their bus returning to their school after a long day of competition. Sadly, they only earned dub gold this time, so they couldn't even qualify for nationals.

For the first years it was a total let down despite all the cheer, but most of the other members just didn't knew how to take it.

"Im tired..."

"Tell me about it, Senpai" Kanade replied sitting at her side, sort of, she was laid in the seat with her legs collected, not longer ago she was crying from the results. Kumiko in other hand, has her legs stretched, with her heels outside her loafers, she wanted to let her feet breath after a long day in the concert.

"You're asking like you don't know what im talking about, Kanade" Kumiko chuckle, settling herself a bit "its really a bummer we didn't passed, huh?"

"Yeah, and i was motivated to do everything i could thanks to you" she hit her slowly in the shoulder "So this is defeat, even after give your all?"

"Yeah..." The amber eyed girl thought, looking to the window above her kouhai head. The sun was about to set, and the orange sky complemented the view. Aside the noises of the bus tires, and the cars passing the vehicle. It was quiet , they should reach Kitajuji by night, "We reached Nationals last year... i mean, why not this time".

"I know, Kumiko-Senpai. All the third and second years seemed focused, i can't believe we couldn't go"

"Me neither" Kumiko smiled, picturing their competition in mind "The other schools were really good, they are in perfect sync" she pointed, looking at the bus roof. "We need to practice more"

"Me as well, i need to practice more, and more..." Kanade replied, yawning "You're amazing Kumiko Senpai, you're always practicing to improve. I would like to do the same starting tomorrow, but" she lays her head on Kumiko's shoulder, closing her eyes "i want to relax for now"

The second year euphonist sighed at the act. She really didn't mind her, she was happy to have her own Kouhai, and a second chance to be a even better example. To her surprise, Kanade reminded to herself from the past. Being apart of others problems despite be curious about it. Always with their mind in the cloud, as well wanting to take seriously the band, something that really brought her some troubles for herself. "But this time, i was here for you..." No like me, who wanted to stay by herself.

"Is that a confession of love?"

"Buahh!" Surprised, Kumiko jumped her torso a bit, followed by a smirk from the firts year euphonist "No, no... i-i was just thinking"

"Huh... you're really less cool than i thought senpai" she narrowed her eyes in a poud.

"I wasn't trying" a little sweat passed her forehead, Kanade a first sight seem like an archetype of nice girl, but far from the true, she was a perceptive and direct girl, very dangerous.

"Whatever, i was joking. Im your Kouhai, so i obviously know you're already have an special someone. Not matter how much i want you to stay with me" a little smirk was draw in her lips.

"Huh, what do you mean? Ha ha, Suuichi and i broke up"

"Sure, sure, you... wait, you both did?" Her expression was everything needed to know her thoughts.

"Why are you looking at me like i made the worts decision ever?"

"I didn't expected that, at all" Kanade put a finger on her forehead, like she was trying to remember a dot that could trouble both her senpai with the trombone player in the relationship. "Well, sorry to hear that maybe i went far teasing you..." she explained closing her eyes "to be honest, i don't think he deserved you..."
