I examined myself in the mirror as the makeup artist began her final touches around my face. I sighed at the thought of this, this magical time with a real life glam squad, being over so soon, but alas I had bigger and better things to be attending to. My long golden hair tumbled over my breasts and shoulders, curling slightly at the end. It was shiny and soft, considering it had been perfected for hours by my hairdresser, Cynthia. "Now don't you go on touching that gorgeous hair of yours, alright sweetheart?" Cynthia said while chomping loudly on a piece of bubblegum. Her southern accent rang thick as she sprayed a thin layer of hairspray overtop her masterpiece. "I won't Cynthia, and thank you again." I said to her whilst getting out of the makeup chair. "Honey, It's our job. It's what we are here to do. Now you let me know if you need anything else." I nodded as Cynthia and the rest of her crew left the spacious room provided to us by the Ritz Carlton Hotel where I was staying. My manager, and practically my only ever parent figure, Maggie, ran over to me fiercely. "Alright, now that hair and makeup is done it's time for the dress!" she said happily as her hands shook with anxiety.
I hired Maggie when I was just 16 years old, a child. She, and the rest of my town, never thought I would make it this big. But after I made it to the big leagues, there was no way I would give up on Maggie there. She would stay with me for the rest of my career, if I had any say in it. It was nice having someone by my side that was new to all this, Maggie was just as nervous for my first big award show as I was. I was nominated for 3 awards this evening, 'Outstanding Solo Artist', 'Best Up and Comer', and 'Leading Female Solo Artist'. Seeing those nominations brought a whirlwind of emotions with it, considering it felt like just yesterday I was singing in bars and restaurants around my small town in Kansas. But I would have to face the facts, now I was sitting inside a Ritz in Hollywood, waiting for my dress to arrive so I could go to the VMAs. A wild thought, but an incredible one.
Finally the dress crew arrived, and with it my gorgeous blush colored mini dress. I had already tried it on multiple times, for it required many fittings, but seeing it now knowing I would be wearing it outside in a minute, that was crazy. The dress was ever so flattering, exposing most of the upper thigh on my right leg. For the first time in my life I looked beautiful and sexy, instead of cute and adorable. I felt like an adult. I stood at a whopping 5'5 with my heels on, which bothered me. I always wished I was taller, but yet I never grew above 5'3. The most convenient thing about my height though, is I didn't need to worry about the height of whatever spouse I have in the future, it won't matter. I laughed to myself as I thought of one of my celebrity crushes, Louis Tomlinson of One Direction, and his height. I felt as if we would be a power couple, for even with heels on he was still a good 3 inches taller than me. I quickly shut that thought down, like that would ever happen. He was in one of the largest boy bands of all time, and I was just some random singer girl from Kansas.
I sighed quietly, trying not to act too blue as I examined myself once again in the full length mirror before me. "Maggie I have a quick question," I said to my manager. She turned to me and nodded. "Do you know most of the people attending tonight?" I said, trying to act careless and nonchalant. "I happen to know most of them, why?" She questioned. I let her question hang in silence for a moment while I contemplated asking a second. Suddenly, the silence became painful, so I swallowed my pride and asked. "Do you know if Louis Tomlinson would be there?" I said while staring at my shoes, trying not to give away that I was dying to know. "I believe the entire One Direction band will be there." Maggie said with a smirk, and with that she turned on her heel and laughed to herself as she left the room.
