"You are going to be late for the first day!" My dad yells from down the stairs.

I roll my eyes and I get up from my bed. I've been ready for about fifteen minutes now, but I don't want to go down there. The less time I have to see him, the better.

"Natalie!" He yells again. He has always been so damn impatient about absolutely everything.

"I'm coming!" I grab my bag and I walk down the stairs to a completely silent house. The only thing I can hear is the washing machine slowly spinning the clothes around.

"Be home right after school," I hear behind me.

"I always do," I say.

Most kids would expect to be woken up with some nice breakfast or with their lunch packed for them by their mom or dad. That doesn't happen in my household though.

My mom died when I was only four. She had breast cancer and she couldn't fight anymore. My grandma always told me that my mom was my best friend. My grandma just recently passed last year too. I felt she was the only one I really had.

My dad doesn't do shit for me or with me. He quite frankly hates me. I don't know why, but he hates having me around. He barley talks to me or pays me any attention. The only time he gives me attention is when he is hitting me.

It's not the safest place to be.

"Have a nice day," he says.

"Thanks," I mumble.

I walk out of the house with all of my shit and I start to walk to school. It's not that far of a walk, but it still takes me about ten minutes everyday. I don't have a car. Dad won't buy me one and I can't afford one myself. It really sucks, but walking is my only option.

Hopefully today goes good for me. I've been feeling so down recently and the only hope I have is having some type of fun at school.

I'm a senior and a lot of times we get to do more fun things as the year progresses. That's good for me. It takes my mind off of my abusive dad and my fucked up life.

After walking for about ten minutes I finally arrive at the school. I don't have many friends here at school. The only person I have is Chloe. She has been my best friend for about three years now. We are super close and she's all I really need at this point in life.

"Nataile!" I look to my right to see Chloe walking at me. At least I get to see her today. She likes to ditch a lot.

"Hey," I say. "How are you?"

"I'm good," she says. "How about you? How was your stupid study session?"

I chuckle and we start to walk into the school together, "It went really well actually, thanks."

Chloe likes to party. She would go out every night to party if she could. I'm not like that though. I would rather go home and watch a movie or get my homework done. I'm super smart, so studying all the time is very important to me. It's not so much to Chloe though.

"How about a party this weekend?" She asks.

"Nah," I say. "We have that Chemistry test on Monday. I need the weekend for that."

"You can't just spare a few hours out of your life to come to the party?" She asks .

We get to our lockers and I quickly open mine. I throw my books in there and I grab my first period book out. "I will think about it. That's not a yes though," I say.

"Yay!" She yells and then loudly shuts her locker door. "I will see you at lunch."

"Bye," I chuckle.

I turn around and I start to walk to my first period which is Calculus. I love this class so much. I'm super good at it, so it makes it super fun and easy for me.

I walk into the room and I sit down in my chair which is in the way back. We get to pick our seats and I always choose to sit in the back. I have nobody to talk to, so I keep to myself in the back.

"Good morning, class," my teacher, Mr. Hayes says. "I'm sure you all had good weekends, but that ends now."

A few people groan, but the majority of people are already asleep. This is what happens when everyone goes to parties all weekend. They sleep all day through every single class. I swear I'm the only one that is ever fully awake.

"You all better wake up," Mr. Hayes says. "We are starting a new project."

"Ew!"

"No!

"That's stupid," a few kids yell.

I smile to myself. I love projects. I love to organize the project and make it look super nice and pretty. People always think I'm crazy for that, but it's something I enjoy.

"I will be picking your partners," he says. "You can start to discuss with them now. The topic is up on the board."

Whenever we get partners I usually get someone pretty good that I can work with. Mr. Hayes loves me because I'm practically the only one that does anything in this entire class. That's why I normally get good partners.

"Kelly and Luke."

"Brittany and Susanna."

"Ryan and Felix."

"Jake and Lisa."

"Natalie and Brandon."

Brandon? Are you fucking kidding me? He's absolutely awful. He goes to about a thousand parties every weekend and can never stay awake to save his life.

The boy is super handsome and so good looking, but his attitude is awful. He doesn't care about school and he doesn't care about others either. The only thing he cares about is getting drunk or getting high every weekend.

Mr. Hayes reads off the rest of the names and then tells us to get with our partners. Brandon usually sits in the front and I'm sure he's fast asleep, so I'll have to be the one to move to him.

I gather my things and I walk to the front of the room as every moves around too. I sit down next to Brandon who is, like I said, fast asleep.

I smack my hand down on the table and his body jolts up. That will teach him not to fall asleep when he is with me.

He starts to look around a bit, "What are you doing? You don't sit here."

"You are right. I don't sit here, but maybe if you listened then you would know why I am sitting here."

"Just tell me," he says.

"I'm your partner on this next project. We are supposed to work together," I say.

"That's stupid," he says. "Didn't we just do a project like two days ago?" I knew he would think that this is stupid. That is Brandon for you. He's always complaining about something.

"Natalie," Mr Hayes says as he stands in front of our table, "I needed to talk to you about Brandon."

"What about him?"

"I'm assigning you to tutor him this quarter," he says to us both.

"What?" Brandon and I say in sync.

"You heard me," Mr. Hayes says. "Brandon is failing out of this class and you are the best in my class. I need you to tutor him, Natalie."

"Do I have to?"

"I'll see if I can get you some extra credit or something," he says. "But you need to do this."

"Okay," I whisper.

Well isn't that just great. The boy I don't want to be with. I now have to spend more tome with him because I'm the one that has to tutor him.

How lovely?
