"A SIGHT FOR SORE EYES"

Joey's POV:

We were playing a cards game when suddenly we heard screaming which sounded familiar. I got up and that's when John approached me.

"Joey. Its Ariel..." And before he could say another word i ran in the direction. My heart pounding against my chest. I pushed past people standing around her and saw her laying on the floor. Her eyes shut tight and she was crying and screaming.

"What the hell happened?" I yelled and flopped down beside her. David also came rushing and sat down.

"Oh my God!" He said his mouth wide open in shock. I picked her head up and held her close to my chest.

"A girl pepper sprayed her and ran away." Someone said and I looked down at Ariel again. Floods of tears were running down her cheeks and my fists clenched into balls.

"WHO THE FUCK DID THIS?!" I yelled but no one spoke out. Everyone went silent.

"Joey... My eyes..." Ariel cried and I immediately picked her up in my arms and started to walk towards the front door.

"Joey! This way." David yelled and I followed him towards his car. He opened the back door for me and i got in with Ariel in my arms. She was coughing and wincing nonstop.

"David! Hurry up!" I yelled as David got in the driver's seat and started driving to the hospital.

"Joey! My eyes...it burns!" Ariel cried and i put my hand on her cheek trying to reassure her.

"Hey. Hey. You'll be fine. We are going to the hospital. Everything will be fine alright?" I said nodding my head at her. Her eyes were still shut tight and her hands were gripping my shirt.

"I can't see anything...i-i can't open my eyes. Its-" She started coughing violently again. I groaned feeling helpless looking at her condition.

"DAVID! FASTER!!!" I yelled again. I saw a water bottle in the passenger's seat and asked David to pass it to me. Maybe it will help. I opened it and washed her face with it. "Is it helping?" I asked slowly and she shook her head.

"Nothing's helping." She whimpered, kicking her legs in pain. She coughed again and i held her tight against my chest. I couldn't see her like this. "Joey! Do something.....i-i can't breathe."

"DAVID!!!" I yelled again. He sped up and soon we reached the hospital.

-after two long, hard and torturous hours-

Ariel finally calmed down and relaxed. Her eyes stopped swelling but her face was still burning, as she said. Her face was still red and swollen. She was laying in the hospital bed and i was sitting beside her. The doctor came and i got up to talk to her.

"Doctor! Her face is still burning. Please tell me there isn't any permanent damage." I said and she smiled.

"No. There isn't any permanent damage. Just a little eye irritation and a little burning sensation would still be there for 24 hours or so. But nothing to worry about. She'll be alright." She assured me and i nodded.

"When we were coming here, she said she couldn't breathe..."

"That's because the pepper spray affects not just the eyes but the throat, nose and lungs too, making it hard to breathe. But everything's alright now." She smiled, checked up on Ariel and then left the room. She said that she'll be back to check on Ariel after two hours, then she can go home. David entered the room with coffee and flowers and put them on the table. He went to Ariel and kissed her on the forehead. I gave them a suspicious look. Is something going on between them?
