Have you ever experienced a day when Lady Luck was just not on your side?

Well, it happened to me today. Much to my dismay.

Firstly, I had woken up later than my alarm because I forgot to switch on the charger for my phone, causing it to be dead. Then, I accidentally bumped my shin onto the bathroom sink while rushing, and my subway card just had to ask for a reload of money when I tried to scan it for the subway train.

With me being slightly tardy, I was unfortunate enough to be caught by my department manager who just had to be early to work that day, hence getting told off mercilessly when we were still standing before new rookie interns who would be working with me for the next few weeks. And if that wasn't enough, when the break time came, I listened to Hoseok's advice for a short coffee break at the café below our office, only to experience... this.

A groan escaped within me when I felt hot and sticky substance hit my working attire. Pursing my lips, I dared myself to look down, and upon seeing the freshly stained coffee on my white dress shirt and tie, I couldn't help but to glare at the culprit who caused this to happen.

"Sunbaenim! I'm sorry!" The girl who was still holding onto the now empty cup cried out, and I noticed her eyes becoming teary from fear.

I recognized her as one of the interns, and averting my attention towards the table where she was heading, I saw a few other interns watching us with the same fear in their eyes. The angel and devil in my mind started to debate then - should I be nice or mean today?

Shaking my head, I decided to let it go. No point fussing over spilled coffee which couldn't be undone.

"It's fine." I gave her a small smile before attempting to walk away, and gasped in shock when I felt her stopping me by wrapping her hand around my wrist.

Without hesitation, I spun around to glare at her for touching me like that before retracting my arm forcefully from her grasp. She looked down onto the ground, and I heard her whimper before glancing up again.

"Sunbaenim, I'm really sorry for causing this to happen. Is there a way to compensate this?" She asked, and I frowned at her stubbornness.

I was already willing to let this go, so just why was she so adamant on doing this?

"Just do your work diligently without causing anymore trouble." I spoke with my poker face on, and turned to leave for the toilet right after.

Luckily, Hoseok had a spare shirt to lend me with, so I quickly changed into the shirt before my break time ends. I cringed slightly at how loose the black dress shirt fitted on me, and since it was only a few hours away before the end of work, I opted to not wear my coffee stained tie and left the first two buttons open instead.

When I was back at my desk, my eyebrows shot up when I noticed a sticky note and a packet of chocolate that didn't belong to me placed right in the middle of my desk. I sat down on the seat before holding it up to inspect it, and an incredulous chuckle emitted from my throat when I finally realized who was this from.

To Park sunbaenim,

I'm truly sorry about the incident earlier!
I know you've told me to stop bringing it up, but I just can't help but to feel guilty over it. TㅅT

So please accept this chocolate as a compensation!

Still rendered speechless by the girl, I picked up the packet of chocolate and my heart did a skip when I saw that it was my favourite chocolate brand. It had been ages since I had one, and despite being tempted to tear open the packaging to eat it, I told myself not to as if the girl were to see this, she might get the wrong idea.

The last thing I really needed was for another girl to crush on me only to turn out to be some gangster's sister again.

"Maybe Jungkook will like this." I muttered to myself, thinking of how Gaeul only liked dark chocolate while the boy was never a picky eater.

I had gotten closer to my wife's right-hand man ever since the incident, and he was pretty friendly, and sometimes mischievous in his own way. My smile grew when I thought of my wife whom I hadn't seen for two days now, since she was finally back into the whole mafia business after recovering fully for a month.

Damn, I miss her.

When work ended, I grumbled when I saw heavy rain pouring over the concrete road outside the office building. I didn't bring an umbrella today as I spent my entire morning rushing nonstop, causing it to slip from my mind.

The nearest subway station would be a three minutes walk, and after contemplating for a minute, I was about to run into the rain when I felt something hover above me, making me look up to see a transparent umbrella shielding me from the raindrops. Standing next to me with an anxious and shy smile was the same intern again, and truthfully, I didn't know what to feel at the moment.

"Sunbaenim, you can take my umbrella, if you don't mind." She spoke with her voice slightly louder over the pouring rain.

"I don't need it, thank you for your consideration though." I gave her an awkward smile before running into the rain, only to be pulled back slightly before getting shielded by the umbrella again.

"You'll get sick if you run in the rain!" She blurted, and grabbed my unoccupied hand to hold onto the umbrella handle. "Take this, please."

My eyes enlarged when I saw her about to run away, causing me to grab her arm gently before pulling her back to where the umbrella was still preventing us from getting soaked in the rain. I stared at her as if she was crazy with my mouth slightly ajar.

"Are you heading to the subway station as well?" I asked her, and she nodded meekly. "Let's go there together then, it'd be ungentleman of me to let a girl to run in the rain."

"O-okay." She stuttered, and as we began to walk, I made sure to hover the umbrella more towards her side, even if it meant for my left shoulder to be exposed to the downpour.

We strode towards the subway entrance in silence, not exchanging another word as I felt extremely uncomfortable of the situation I was stuck in. When we were finally free from the rain, I closed the umbrella and returned it back to its owner.

"Thank you." I gave her a slight nod before dashing away, not caring whether my shoe soles were squeaking against the ground as I quickly descended down the stairs.

While riding in the subway, my mind began to drift back to the incidents today. The new intern was highly suspicious to me, but I had to remain a professional attitude with her or there would be worse to come.

When I was finally back home, I exhaled happily from the stress today and immediately hopped into a hot shower. After that, I left my room to walk to the kitchen to make myself something to eat, only to jump and nearly curse in surprise when I saw Gaeul glaring at a carrot on the chopping board with an angry pout.

Calming my erratic heartbeat down, I spoke. "Baby, when did you come home?"

Gaeul glanced at me with the angry pout still evident on her face. "Just now. And I'm trying to cook but... I don't know how."

"Cook? My wife is actually trying to cook?" I teased, and laughed when she threatened to throw the carrot at my direction. "Baby, let's just leave the cooking for the maid today okay? Spend time with me instead."

"But-"

Cutting her off with an embrace while sticking our foreheads together, a contented smile bloomed on my face. "I had a rough day at work today, and I need my energizer this instant. Beep beep."

"You're so weird." Gaeul pushed my forehead away, and I cooed at her blushing cheeks.

"Only for you, baby. Only for you."
