Clovers POV

"So have you made many friends yet?" Grandma asked as she she rolled out a pie crust on the floured counter. "Well, not that many yet but it's only been 2 day" I replied with a shrug. I wasn't really the best at making friends, always scared to talk to anyone in fear that I might say the wrong thing and create enemy's instead.

"Your still trying out for the track team aren't you pumpkin?" She questioned. I nodded quickly, I had been on the track team at my old school and granny thought it would be good if I was on the one here as well. I liked having a sport to keep me busy, when I got bored my mind tended to wonder to dark places sometimes when I had to much time on my hands.

"Tryouts are next Monday" I smiled. "I know you'll be the best" she winked, a smile spreading across her sweet face. "Well you go on and get all your home work done and I'll call you down when dinners ready sweet girl" she said shooing me up the stairs.

I reluctantly trudged my way to my room and pulled out my assignments. It wasn't much but I was always a huge procrastinator, horrible habit I know. Despite my lack of motivation I forced myself to finish everything, filing it all neatly back into my bag and double checking that it was all there. I had to admit finishing things before the last possible second did feel pretty good.

"Darling, dinner is ready, come on down" granny called up the stairs. I hopped off my bed and hurried down the carpeted steps, eager to eat more of her amazing cooking.

The house smelled heavenly. Grandma truly was a master in the kitchen. I quickly set the table and we ate potato casserole happily, enjoying a conversation about the day. I was so glad I made the choice to come here, it was just what I needed. It still felt like there was a gaping hole in my chest every time I thought about my dad, but at least here I could breath.  Being surround by the people and things that he grew up with almost made me feel like he was with me.

"Thank you for letting me come here." I said to granny from across the table. She smiled, setting her fork down and reaching over to set her hand on top of mine. "Thank you for coming, it was getting awfully lonely in this house all by myself" she laughed.

My eyes started to tear up as I though about all those years she spent here alone after my grandfather died. I had always wanted to come here and visit her, I begged my parents every chance I got, but my dad was weird about coming here. It's like he feared this town, I couldn't understand why, but I never pushed him to tell me.

"Don't go getting all mushy on my now" grandma said as she stood to clear the table. I wiped my face quickly, laughing off my sadness. I washed the dishes for her and put them away in there designated cabinets.

"You head on up to bed now, I don't want you being late tomorrow" she said, sending me off to me room with a kiss on the cheek. "Goodnight granny" I laughed as I jogged up the stairs and into my room. I was exceptionally tired that day. My eyes dropped as soon as I hit the mattress and it wasn't long before I fell asleep.
