After telling Lisa that she was losing her mind, we sat down and Caleb joined us.
"What's going on, guys?" He asked.
"Celia's doing the Baby Mission with some cute guy," Lisa reported.
"Ooh," Hums Caleb. "Sounds like I have somebody to be introduced to."
"Oh my God," I say.
Lisa just laughed.
Bear sits by himself at lunch times. I wondered if he'd done that at St Michaels. I felt a bit sorry for him. Lisa did too, obviously. In fact, she felt the need to go and talk to him, luckily, I convinced her that wouldn't be right.
When I finally got home after that hell-hole, I had a throbbing headache. I took some tablets and brushed my hair.
Mum and dad hated my hair, but they don't treat me any differently because of it. I think they understand that it's just trendy at my school.
I sat at my desk, tapping my pen against my cheek. I don't know what to write. These diary things never end well - actually, they never end.
At about nine 'o clock that night, I got a Group Skype chat from Caleb and Lisa. Caleb wasn't exactly a whiz when it came to technology - the first thing I saw through the camera was his browny silver hair.
Now, don't get me wrong, Caleb's hair is beautiful, but seriously.
"Caleb, look into the web cam."
Lisa scoffs.
"Glad I amuse you," Caleb snaps.
"Whoa," I say. "What's wrong with you?"
He sighs and presses his fingers into his forehead. "Stressful, stressful, parents."
"Ah," says Lisa. "I feel you."
"Yeah, and you won't believe what they were talking about."
"What?" I ask.
"They said, 'Caleb... You know it's alright to like the same gender, don't you?' And I say 'yeah', and they have to say, 'So you know you can talk to us about anything to do with that'."
"So..." I say. "You're, uh, not gay, huh?"
"What the hell, Celia! of course I'm not!" Caleb glares into his webcam.
"Yeah," says Lisa. "What the hell, Celia."
I falter. "I, er, knew that."
Caleb sighs frustratedly. "People actually think I'm gay?"
"I mean," I falter. "You kind of say some gay things. And ignore girls flirting with you."
"Girls flirt with me?"
I laugh. "They try, but your so hopelessly clueless."
Caleb was blind to all the female attention he was getting. I felt sorry for the girls with high hopes. If I didn't know Caleb so well, I probably would have a crush on him as well, but I knew to much for that.
Lisa clears her throat and flicks her hair out of her eyes. "Is that the reason you called us, Caleb?"
I expected him to say no. I mean, why would he Skype call us for that?
"Yep."
"Yep what?" I ask blankly.
"Yep, as in, that's the reason I called."
"Ah."
There's awkward silence for a moment.
"Well," Caleb says. "Gotta run."
"Rightio, see you guys!" Says Lisa.
"See ya," I reply.
The call is ended.
I sit, staring at my laptop screen for a while when my phone buzzes in my pocket. It's a text, from Lisa.
it reads; You owe me a tenner, you nugget.
I roll my eyes and text back. Go to hell.
I'll send you a postcard. she replies.
I laugh and throw my phone onto the other side of my bed.
But my phone vibrated again.
Oh yeah, I forgot. Guess who's number I got!
I frown. Who's? Did they give it to you?
Bears, and no, he didn't give it to me. I did some internet prowling.
Stalking?
No, prowling.
I laugh, and shut off my phone again, plugging it into the charger by my bed. Some time later that night, I get Bear's number (Lisa gives it to me, she says for important reasons, and to keep it).Lets just skip to Friday, because honestly, nothing interesting happens between then. I don't see Bear outside of class, he just drops the baby on my desk and moves to the desk at the back, leaving me by myself at the front. But I don't care, it's whatever.
Caleb's totally rich parents surprised him with a new phone, of the latest style, yesterday for no reason. I don't even know why Caleb goes to a public school when he could probably afford the richest in the country.
Anyway, so Lisa shows up at my door at literally six in the morning. Mum wearily calls for me and I fall off my bed and die a bit inside.
I was still kind of hoping it was a dream until Lisa really does come into my room.
"Why are you on the floor?" She asks. I groan.
"Oh, my God, Celia," She says, her voice rising higher.
"What?" I snap, mourning my sleep.
"He texted me. Oh, my God. I can't-"
Hold on. I sit up a little, frowning and rubbing my eyes. "What, who?"
"Bear, Celia."
I laugh a little. "Yo, wait, what?"
"I'm serious," Lisa's shaking a little, trying to hold my eye contact while I reach for my uniform. "I texted him first. I was like, Hey, this is Lisa. And he goes, Hey. I didn't even expect him to reply, but maybe he's seen me with you or something and-,"
I hold up my hand. "Yeah, stop. You've never spoken to him. Not once." I hold up my hairbrush. "Plus, we don't have time for this. We're planning a very important prank, a VIP, if you will, and it's against him."
Lisa goes to argue, but I walk out, and she follows. I'm used to her acting like this, like a girl, because she is and stuff. It's nice having Caleb, limiting the boy drama, or, well, depends if he was telling the truth last night.
Homeroom, first period, Friday. Lucky for me, Bear's lame, unhappy face was the first thing I had the pleasure of seeing.
"Hello Joyful," I breathe.
"Where's the baby?"
"It's gone. Fell off the back of a truck. Also, your fly is undone."
Bear covers his crotch, going pink. "What did you say?"
I raise my eyebrows. "About your fly?"
"Shut up. Give me the baby."
I sigh and take it out of my bag, and Bear starts to move.
I tell him he may as well just sit with me, not because I'm lonely or anything, just because it's the least I can do for someone with no friends. He laughs and tells me its the worst I can do, and also that I'm very annoying.
Which hurts, ouch.
He sits down beside me anyway, but ignores me most of the time, because his phone keeps going off.
