Svetlana:

It is first Monday in November, which means I have been here for three months! Yay! And it also means Show Time, baby! Oh my god I can’t wait! This morning we were told that we have one week to prepare for the Selection. It is organised every year in every grade. A group of people is selected for representation of their grade. They will perform at school assemblies, beneficial concerts, etc. Till another Selection, which is in three months. Also “the guest of the year” – One Direction – and their special guest will choose one person and they’ll sing on their concert with them. Teachers divide us into various groups. The group must prepare a performance for the show and also there is a performance for every department (singing, dancing and acting).

I’m in a group with two girls and two boys. I don’t really know them because they’re all dancers. I hope they’re normal. I don’t want to be arguing with someone, because I need this to be perfect. I want to be chosen.

“I think we should decide if we want the song to be slow or quick.” I suggested after we introduced ourselves. We all agreed on a quick song. Good.

“Any ideas?” I took out my phone and went through my playlist.

“What about A Little Party Never Killed Nobody?” Alicia, a little blond girl, suggested.

“I think it’s too party like.” Jake, a tall blue-eyed boy with black hair, turned down her choice.

“Happy by Pharrel?” – Jake.

“Too mainstream.”

“Crazy Stupid Love by Cheryl Cole?” – Andrea, a short blond girl with green eyes.

“I don’t like that song.” I complained.

“Fall Out Boy – Centuries?” I suggested.

“Who the hell is Fall Out Boy?” Alicia question.

“A band. You should check them out. They even performed on the last year’s Victioria’s Secret show.” I replied.

“I have the perfect song! Love Runs Out by One Republic!” Carl, he had curly brown hair, exclaimed.

“Yes!” We all agreed and I quickly acknowledged one of the professors about our song choice.

“How about we do the choreography and you do your rehearsals? Then we can meet tomorrow and get it together?” I more than willingly agreed on Carl’s offer and headed straight to the back of the theatre. I quickly downloaded the lyrics to the song and put on my headphones, getting the melody and the words into my head. After an hour or so of walking around the theatre most of the people finally left.

“Hey, babe.” Niall waved at me and embraced me.

“Hi.” I smiled widely and kissed him.

“Love Runs Out? Good choice.” He looked into my phone from behind my shoulder and rested his chin on it.

“I’ll be your light, your match, your burning sun...” I sang the song all over again and again with Niall correcting me and helping me.

“Can we go for lunch? I’m really starving...” I pouted at Niall, suddenly feeling hungry after all the singing. He nodded and we went to the hotel restaurant next to my university.

“Now, let’s try it on stage.” My boyfriend gave me a microphone into right hand once we were back in the school theatre. There were about thirty people around, not much but I haven’t performed for quite a while, so I got a bit uneasy to be honest.

“Babe, come here.” Niall called me down after my first try. “This wasn’t very good. Both you and I know it. You can do much better. It’s only like forty people in here. That’s nothing. In a week, this would be full of people and you have to show them how good you are. Right now it’s empty. Just focus on the song, on the lyrics, on the melody, on you, alright, baby?” I totally screwed up. Put yourself together, Svetlana! I let Niall’s words sink in and then nod. I feel his lips on mine and I smile weakly.

“Good. Give it another try.” I get up and do it again. This time enjoying it much more, forgetting about everyone and everything.  When I look at my boyfriend he’s satisfied with my performance and claps loudly. I giggle and get off of the stage straight into his arms.

“See. This was much better. If you do it at least like now I’m sure you’ll get it.”

The next day we did more rehearsals together with Carl, Jake, Alicia and Andrea. They did a pretty good job. I really like the choreography. But we’re not really synchronised. We keep bumping into each other and our timing is awful. Thankfully Mr. Conrad promised to help us tomorrow. Andrea already planned the rest of the week. Tomorrow we have Mr. Conrad to help us and we have to choose what we will be wearing on Saturday. Thursday is more rehearsals.  Friday - getting everything done to the last detail and finally Saturday – The D-day. Or should I say the S-day? Whatever.

I am so busy right now. I can’t get those fucking dance moves into my head! I don’t know what to do... And when I finally know them I just can’t move and sing at the same time. Fuck this! It is so frustrating. I even skipped lunch and now I’m skipping dinner. I think I’ll skip the sleeping as well. Fucking Selection.
