The Little Golden Lamb
It was an extremely hot summer day in the desert, almost too hot for a young and naive shepherd named Emily Stephans. Normally in Egypt a woman let alone a girl would be a shepherd tending to her family's sheep. You would normally see this task be done by a son or a father. Whomever happened to the leader of the household. However, due to a strange illness Emily's aged father has contracted an illness that made him very weak and fatigued. He is unable to perform the field work tending to the sheep.
So Emily stepped up and took the job for her family. Emily didn't have any brothers or sisters to help her in this task unfortunately. She lost all of them in a Great War between a camping tribe and her people long ago. With no one else to take the jobs Emily stepped up and did what her father would always do around the house. Tending and milking sheep and rams, killing one for when they desired to feast, and gathering water from the nearby river.
All of this work took all day to accomplish. It left Emily zero time to do what she truly loved to do. Emily loved adventure! No matter how dangerous and deadly it might be. When she was younger she would always try to find something new to explore. But every time she would become close to completing her own self dedicated quest, she would be messaged by her mother that she must get home by the family's messenger dog.
It's been almost a year since she's thought about going on another adventure. She sometimes misses the feeling of the wind blowing through her hair, a small cut on her cheek from a barely missed arrow, and she surprisingly missed holding her breath to toxic gasses that try to stop her. She would often think about it as she would take the sheep to the river for a fresh drink of water.
One day as she was watching the sheep drink she noticed a small lamb wondering from the herd. No matter what she did she couldn't call it back. So she decided to follow it before it got too far. As she followed the little black and white lamb led her into a dimly lit cave that was just beyond the pyramids of Giza.
"This is strange.." Emily said to herself, "I don't remember this being here.. this isn't a safe place to be little one. Come on let's go home."
The little sheep bahed and jumped inside of the cave before Emily could grab it. It ran into the cave too fast for her to keep up, causing Emily to lose sight of it in the darkness beyond.
"It's too dark to see.. hm.." Emily thought for a moment before her mind struck an idea. "I can make a torch with some tree oil sap and thick bale leaves." Her quick thinking gave her a small advantage in catching the lamb. She took a thick branch from a Bale tree and tied some cloth and leaves around it. She then dipped the newly made torch into some Bale tree oil.
"That should do it." She said as she lit a spark. Lighting the torch on fire. When the torch light was shined into the cave all Emily could see creeped her out more than anything else in her life. The walls were covered inch to inch with large beetles! They made the whole cave look black even with the light. The shock Emily felt when she saw the bugs was so much that she let out a loud yelp. Her yell echoed through the cave causing all the inhabitant bettles to panic! They all flew right out of the cave at her faster than she could properly react.
Emily screamed and covered her face so the beatles didn't cut her eyes or cheeks. When the bug storm cleared allow Emily could see was a small chest. But no sign of the little lamb. Emily searched all over the cave for the lamb. Even searching for its bones or corpse. But she found nothing. When she gave up the search she sat on the chest and let out a heavy sigh.
"Oh where could you be..." she asked to herself. "Little lamb!" She called out through the cave and beyond. "Where are you?!"
Suddenly when she lost all hope she heard a thump inside the treasure chest. Along with the sounds of a baby lamb calling for help from inside of it.
"Little lamb?!" She called out. "Don't worry young one I'll get you out of there!" She kicked them check open breaking the lock on it with her force. When she opened the chest the lamb jumped into her arms covered in gold and jewels covering his fur. She sheep's very wool had turned into a endless growing golden twine.
"Oh my gosh.." she said as she looked at the lamb. "Little one this is some sort of miracle! My father can get royal treatment with your hair!" She smiles at the sheep and hugged it.
"Thank you golden sheep!" Emily held the sheep in her arms and ran home with it as fast as she could. She showed the lamb to her family. Her own mother and father had tears in their eyes from she wealth they just earned. They all agreed to raise the lamb as a pet, and a friend rather than a livestock. Using the wool it grew to great golden stitched vest and pants fit for royal kings and queens. People would pay thousands of coins and goods for the golden wool clothing.
So thanks to the little lambs curiously, Emily was able to have a proper life with her golden sheep. Living rich and wise. She no longer had to tend the sheep for her father, her fathers illness got cured and he could be the ,an or the house again. Emily and her family never worried about money again and opened a well known wool soothing tradings post called the Golden Lambs Blessing. To this day the family business of the golden lambs blessing has been passed down from generation to generation. While the golden lamb lives in its own secret field with a statue representing the long gone Emily and her family.
That is the story of the golden lamb and one of the adventures of Emily Stephans. There are many more to be told. But those are a story for another day.
