- After school, at volleyball club

Suga entered the volleyball practice building with form in hand. There were some students practicing on the court and an old man stood at the side of the court giving instructions. Apparently, he was the volleyball team coach.

"Excuse me," Suga called out hesitantly.

The coach looked toward his direction. "Can I help you?"

"I want to join this club. Here's the form," he gave the form to the coach.

The coach nodded and beckoned him to warm up along with the other first years. His eyes lighted up when he saw Daichi.

"Daichi-san!"

Daichi looked up. "Suga-san," he smiled and it made Suga's heart beat faster. Is it alright to feel like this toward someone I just met this morning? Moreover, he's a guy!

He shook his head to clear his mind and joined the first years for warm up. That was when he realized there were only three of them. Him, Daichi and a brown haired guy who was even taller than Daichi. Later he introduced himself as Asahi Azumane. He seemed nice and timid. Suga found himself comfortable talking to his new friend.

"Everyone, gather up! We have three first year students joining today. I'm coach Ukai. Please introduce yourselves to us!" coach Ukai instructed them.

The three of them introduced themselves one by one in front of their coach and senpais. "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu," they bowed deeply after the introduction finished.

The coach told them to line up with the other members. "We're aiming for Interhigh. Remember to not lose from Nekoma. From today onward, all of you have to work harder than ever!"

"Yes, sir!" the team answered in unison.

After that, the three of them started their very first practice in high school. The third years were really excited and they gave their best during practice. It seemed they didn't want to lose since it will be their last match in high school. Daichi, Suga and Asahi tried their best to keep up with their senpais.

Finally the practice was over. The three of them did stretches to cool down after all of them finished clean up the court. That was when one of their senpais approached them. They looked up to see a guy with black messy hair and dark grey eyes.

"Hello. My name is Udai Tenma. Nice to meet you guys," he bowed a little to his kouhais.

"Nice to meet you, Udai-senpai," the three of them greeted him at almost the same time.

"I saw you guys earlier. Must be hard to keep up with the third years. I also find it a bit difficult to keep up with them due to our height difference. But we just need to practice more. So, let's work hard for prelim," he grinned at the three first years.

The three of them looked at each other and smiled then answered in unison," Yes, senpai!"

"Let's go home, guys. We have morning practice tomorrow. Don't tire yourself out," he waved at the three. Then the first years decided to call it a day. Asahi waved goodbye to Daichi and Suga then walked toward opposite direction. Daichi and Suga walked side by side in comfortable silence. After few minutes, Suga started the conversation.

"That was fun. Udai-senpai was amazing, despite being the shortest among all of us. Even the third years can't block his spike," he said with excitement.

"You're right. I had trouble when I tried to receive the ball. His spikes was really powerful," Daichi let out a laugh.

They chatted for a while until they reached intersection near Suga's house.

"Then I'll be going this way. My house is down this road," Suga said while pointed at the direction to his house.

Daichi nodded. "I'll be going this way. Good night, Suga-san. See you tomorrow".

"See you, Daichi-san," Suga smiled at him.

Thump.

There it is. That thumping noise again.

Daichi waved to Suga then proceeded toward direction of his house. It seemed Suga's mood has gotten better after school. Maybe the event that happened during opening ceremony was just his imagination. He brushed off the uneasiness in his heart. He can't stop himself from smiling when the thought about Suga crept into his mind. That time he didn't realize that he already fell in love with Suga.

- At Suga's house

Suga stepped out of the bathroom and flumped onto his bed and sighed. He felt really happy that he can continue to play volleyball in high school.

He looked at his phone. 9.15 PM.

He searched for a contact number and pressed the call button. After few rings, the other party picked up his call.

"Hello, Koshi?"

"Tomoe," Suga's eyes lightened up once he heard the other's voice. "How is your school in Tokyo?"

"Honan is fine, as expected. How about Karasuno? Do you join the volleyball club?" the voice at the other side asked back.

Suga nodded eventhough he knew the other party won't be able to see it. "I do. It was fun. I made friends with some classmates. The senpais in volleyball club are amazing. I still wish we attend the same school, though".

Tomoe chuckled at Suga's remark. "You know I can't attend the same school as you, right?"

Suga sighed exaggeratedly to annoy him. "I know. They don't have stride club in my school. But you choose Honan out of all school, huh? I bet you met people with better skill than yours there". Suga threw sarcasm toward his friend.

"More like, people that I can connect with. Indeed, they're better than the members in our junior high," Tomoe brushed off his sarcasm.

"So, why did you call?" Tomoe finally decided to ask the real reason why Suga called.

There was a long pause until Suga answered vaguely. "Just because".

"I bet there's something else. Spill the tea".

After being cornered, Suga decided to gave up and tell the truth. "Well... I've been concerned about something. Or rather someone I just met this morning".

Tomoe didn't reply and waited patiently for Suga to continue with his story.

"I keep thinking about him. He has dark hair, beautiful big brown eyes, slightly tanned skin and well build body. Whenever I see his smile or hear his voice, it makes me happy. Is it possible that I like him? I mean, I normally don't see guys that way, but he's different. I feel that kind of interest toward him. What do you think?"

There was no reply.

"Tomoe? Are you still there?" Suga called out to his friend.

His friend let out a chuckle. Suga felt a bit offended. "Did I say something funny?" he pouted.

"Sorry. I didn't mean it in bad way. I think it's normal to like someone regardless of their gender, Koshi. Be it as friends, as someone you look up to or even someone you love. As long as you're happy with it, then go on. I'll be rooting for you. But if that feeling doesn't bring happiness for you, then don't force yourself". Tomoe uttered his honest opinion.

Suga smiled. "Thank you so much, Tomoe. I feel much better after talking to you. It's getting late. I'll hang up, okay?"

"Okay. Call me if something happen. I'll listen to your problems".

Just like that, their conversation ended. Suga put down his phone and closed his eyes.

Maybe Tomoe was right. There's nothing wrong with liking Daichi-san. As long as he doesn't know and it doesn't trouble him. I feel happy just being with him, though.
