The Office

My heart stopped a moment. "Okay, I'll wait here," Marisa says. "180? That's your NAME?"
She seemed confused. But the only ones around here with names like Marisa were the lab coat people.
"That's my name."
And at that, I walk to the office I was called to. Office 1156 I have to remember. Walking down the cold empty hallway was never exciting. Same doors, same windows, and same floors. Floors that make a click as you walk on them. It's the one sound I grew up knowing.
Finally, after going through a ton of office numbers, I find 1156. Slowly, I turn the silver knob and open the door. Right away, the man at a wooden desk asks me a question.
"Is there a problem?" He asks, folding his hands together. He sounds ticked off.
"No, sir...there is not." I say
"Then why have you forgotten to knock on my door?"
"My apologies." I add a bow to please him, straightening my posture as I rise. I stand a soldiers position.
"Apology accepted. Next time, you will be punished however," he warns me. The man has a stern look that all the Lab people seem to wear. As if there is no mercy in this place. Nothing will slip by. "I came to tell you, your mission is to kill Marisa."
My heart broke, but it was my first human kill then.
"Why?!" I ask.
"Let me have you know-180-If I were you, I would keep my mouth shut. If you show too much emotion from now on, you will be a fail in experiment. Do you understand?"
"I do, sir."
"Good. Then kill Marisa. I will give you 48 hours to do this. You can take the time you want, or go in and kill her on the spot. But if anyone hears you, they will run to you and you will be punished harshly for murdering."
"How do you suggest I kill her?"
He takes some papers and hits them on the desk lightly to get them together. "I suggest, 180, you use the knowledge you have gained from this place," he says as if it's a simple thing. "However, I will tell you that because she is a young girl, you mustn't let her realize it. Cover her sounds if she does realize. Young girls will scream."
Goosebumps rose on my skin. I was going to take a human life. It shouldn't have hurt me, growing up alone and uncared for. As an experiment. But it hurt alright. And I knew for sure, if I did not get it done, I would never be able to do this.
"I will use my bokken."
"Good choice. Be quick, 180. You are excused."
"Thank you sir, I will not disappoint you."
The thought crossed my mind as I walked back to my room. Most of the Lab people left at 1 A.M. If I could stay up until 2, pretending to be asleep, it could be easy enough. The cover of darkness and absence of staff would work.

"Goodnight, 180. Actually, before bed what if we come up with a name for you?!" Marisa suggests.
"Okay. What name do you like?"
"I don't know at the moment." She admits.
"Well I don't know many names, really."
"Okay. Some names I like are... Angel, Kara, Lauren, Rose, and Jackie."
"I think Angel and Rose are pretty names." I realize.
"I'd say Angel. It sounds pretty to me!"
She jumps onto her hard makeshift bed. It's a twin bed next to my own.
"Goodnight, Angel." She says quietly.
"Goodnight Marisa."
And I wait.
