Emma glanced around the room, her blue eyes shining. “I’m going first,” she said. That was Emma, always going first, to get the most attention. Then she turned to Audrey, her face suddenly twisting into a cheeky grin. “Okay, Audrey. Truth or dare?”
Audrey instantly became worried. She didn’t know which to pick. With Emma, either way you could be signing your death wish. “Uh…”
“Ooh, pick dare. I have the perfect one.” Emma said, excitedly. Audrey stared at Emma, scared that she was going to be made to do something completely and utterly idiotic.
Hesitantly, Audrey muttered, “um, okay. Dare?”
Emma’s face lit up. “Great! This is going to be soooo good!”
Audrey instantly regretted what she had said.
Emma paused for effect. Audrey started to get really worried.
“Audrey, I dare you to kiss Nate.”
Both Audrey and Nate were shocked. They had never even thought that this would ever happen. They were only twelve. Even though other kids their age had boyfriends and girlfriends and kissed people all the time, they both thought they were stupid, and there was no point. Even Emma didn’t really have a boyfriend. She spent too much time with Audrey and Nate. Of course Emma had kissed people before, but Audrey and Nate had never. It would be very awkward, losing your first kiss to your best friend.
“Are you kidding me?” asked Audrey.
“No way,” said Nate.
“Come on, Aud. You wouldn’t want to hear what other dare I have in mind.”
“Fine.” Audrey said, defeated.
“I still have to agree to it, too. She’s gonna be kissing me.”
Emma smiled. “Come on Natey, be a man.”
“Why do you always say that?”
Emma glared at him.
“Okay, okay.”
“Oh, and by the way, on the lips.” Emma said, knowingly.
Embarrassed, Audrey leant towards Nate, her lips slightly puckered. Her lips touched his, for a second, then they moved apart. Nate was blushing bright red. Emma looked positively joyous.
“See, that wasn’t so bad.”
Audrey grimaced. “Can we just forget this ever happened?”
