Dear Emma,
We never did forget that night, really. The night you made me and Audrey kiss. The night you died.
I suppose, for a while, we tried to push it to the back of our minds. A kiss was not important, when your best friend for eight years had suddenly disappeared. But then Audrey and I were talking one day and…
I guess your dare made us finally realise we had feelings for each other.
We did go out for quite a while when we were fifteen. There were many more kisses, but never anything more. I don’t really know if I actually loved her or not, as more than just a friend. I never got to figure it out because I moved away that year.
My dad had been given a job in America, and mum thought it would be better to get out of here. Too many memories, she said. I guess she meant you. That’s what they always mean.
So yeah. I’m not really in touch with Audrey anymore. Sometimes, I think I should be. But I don’t think it would work. The only reason we were friends in the first place was to keep you out of trouble, but anyway.
I have an awesome girlfriend now, Emma. I think you’d really like her. I think you’d really like America, too. They have great parties.
Love,
Nate
