This isn't your ordinary story. This won't be like those boring romantic novels with a happy ending. It doesn't have a bad ending either. Well actually... You'll have to see for yourself...

Bright flashes surround me, as if I am standing in the middle of a thunderstorm, the source of life, the source of this pain in my chest which keeps growing and growing, just like all the bright lights... There is no stopping to this. No ending. It goes on until the beginning of time, the ending of worlds. I have been here for days, for seconds, decades and minutes. I've been here forever, no, I just arrived. And won't ever leave again... I feel like my heart is about to jump out of me, it can burst any second, but it stays with me, in so much pain... How- how did this happen?

Gasping for air I wake up; I feel sweat rolling off me everywhere. Deep breath. Usually this isn't so bad. Guess it has to do with tomorrow. I look at my alarm. 03:25 AM. Alright, today. The nightmares visit me almost every night now. That means it's coming. And it's coming for me.

With a sight I fall back in my bed, focusing on my breathing to calm it down. Come on! I've done this before. A few more months and I will be free... But from what? Will it all get better after? And what if it won't? What if all this was for nothing? What if... Stop thinking, you idiot, get your ass up and go get some water.

I listen to myself, get up and slowly open the door of my room, as silent as I can. On my toes I sneak to the kitchen, avoiding the squeaky noises on the stairs and trying not to wake the parents. I close the door, so they won't wake up from the sound of the running water while I fill my glass.

I put the glass down on the table to splash some water on my face. Wait. Stupid me. Leaving water unattended? Only idiots do that. I realised my mistake when I saw steam coming off and bubbles fizzing on the surface of the water. "Shit shit shit noooo not now please!" I begged someone, anyone. I try covering the glass with my hand, but it has no point.

Beaten I sit down on a chair with my hand supporting my chin, waiting for her to scold me. The steamy smoke that came off the water, grows until it reaches the height of my friend, Aliyaah. Her posture and body slowly appear, beginning with her feet in those ridiculous blue slippers she never seems to take off, going to her bulky chestnut hair and the furious look she has in her eyes. A blue-greenish aura surrounds her, with the smell of the sea in the morning.

"How dare you slipping away like that! Months! Months I have been looking for your stupid ass, leaving me like that for God's sake! You are not getting away with this easily, you understand me?! I do not call myself your friend if you sneak off me like that, not again, okay?" she scolded at me.

Ah, I missed her voice. Still staring at me with raised eyebrows she waits for an explanation, but before she can even open her mouth again, I smile broadly and go in for a hug. She immediately squeezes me back. "I won't do it again, Aliyaah, I promise..." I whispered with my head pressed against her chest, too happy to think about my words. "Oh, you're not getting away from me again, you need me," she answers determined. "What-," but I stop and pull away from her. I feel strangely odd, with a weight hanging on my chest. "What magic did you put me under now?" I ask suspicious, afraid of the answer. "Like I said," she smirks while checking out her nails, "you're not getting away from me again." I feel with my fingers on my chest, and yes, there is a necklace, a marine blue stone, girdled by complicated ornaments in gold. "Is this... No, you can't... Girl, that's way too dangerous, you can't do this to yourself! It's ancient magic, where did you even learn how to use that? How-," "Stop complaining," she breaks me off, "I'll be fine. I learned it from a book I found in the basement in my dad's old home. At least you will be careful now." I look at her perplexed. How did she pull this off? I want to be mad, but I'm too worried about her. "You do realise... this has consequences, right?" I whisper. She looks back at me and nods. "You know where to find me, princess," she smirks at her own irony, makes a false bow for me and swirls into the old golden necklace with a whirl, leaving her perfume of the morning sea. I sigh and smile, put my hand around the necklace, as if that'd be safer for her.

I take my glass of water, now simply plain water, without the soul of a wandering princess floating around in it and go back up to my room. I still have a few hours before the start of school.
