"AAH!"
Mingyan almost spat out the water in her mouth.
The junior disciple stared at the books kept on the table with her hand covering her wide-open mouth. "Is that... is that 'The Doctor Who Broke My Heart'?" "Yes." replied Mingyan. "Both the first and the second volume?" the junior disciple looked up. Mingyan nodded, still not knowing the reason for such a reaction. "Shijie, I have been looking for this series everywhere!" the disciple picked up the books and walked up to her. "I knew the second volume was already out but I couldn't find a copy of the first one. Where did you find these?" she eagerly looked at Mingyan. "Er... in a rouge shop in Shuang Hu city." Mingyan unconsciously took a step back. "Can I borrow these for some time?" the disciple still had the cute, expectant expression. "S- Sure!" Mingyan replied. The junior disciple squealed and jumped about but then steadied herself, joined her hands and bowed deeply. "Shijie, thank you very much! I will be sure to remember this favour and return it." "There's no need! It's just books!" Mingyan helped her up.
Two disciples came running to the room just then. "What's the matter Chuntao? Why are you screaming?" a slender looking disciple with an air of a scholar asked. "Qiaohui Shijie! Mingyan Shijie found both the volumes of 'The Doctor Who Broke My Heart'!" Chuntao showed her the books. The other disciple who had come took one of the books from her hand. "I didn't know Shijie read such stories." she said. "This is my first time trying to read something for leisure." said Mingyan. "'The Doctor Who Broke My Heart' is not exactly a good starting point to read this genre." Qiaohui crossed her arms. "I suggest you read 'Love Across Borders' before you read this. It's by the same author." "I'll lend you my copy." the other disciple chipped in. "Thanks a lot, Xiuying, I'll definitely give it a try." Mingyan smiled. "Then we can discuss the story with everyone after you finish reading." Chuntao was full of excitement. "It'll be fun!"
Later that night, Xiuying gave her the book she had promised. After completing all the tasks for the day, Mingyan sat at her table with the book to read. She began reading, and as she continued, she realized that 'Love Across Borders' was a novel depicting a sweet love story,
between a man,
and another man.
