The Missed Call

I woke up to the sound of my door opening, the tinkle of rings against a mug reminded me of where I was.

"Lemon, ginger and honey, to sooth your body and regenerate that energy!" Nick had brought me hot tea in a mug that read 'worlds best mum'.

"Classy" I said as I took a small sip. I felt weird, like I was missing something. Then I remembered. "So umm.. did Thomas come home last night?" I tried to hide how much it was killing me to have to say those words.

"I don't think so, I haven't checked but I didn't hear any cars last night... sorry" he said, his blue eyes sparkling in the sun as he pulled open the curtains. "What should we do today?"

The thought of getting out of bed made my stomach churn. Everyone knows he left. I bet everyone knows why. "How about... binge watch Star Wars?"

"I'll get the snacks!" As I heard his feet pitter patter down the stairs, I rolled over to check my phone. The strong light blinded me for a few seconds before I saw it. One missed call. From Thomas. I sat there for a few minutes before the door flung open and packets crashed to the ground.

"Oops... Okay, I've got buttered popcorn, sweet and salty popcorn, sour gummy worms, sour patch kids, sprite and fanta" I struggled a smile before I said perfect. He sat down on the bed and turned on the tv. His arm slowly stretched around my shoulder as I put my head against his chest. It just felt natural. Although I couldn't stop thinking about Thomas and my baby, I felt the safest i've ever felt.
