I spent the rest of the night unpacking and getting my room ready. I had a busy day tomorrow. I couldn't help but wonder why Caleb was so quick to tell me that him and Riley weren't dating. It didn't matter anyways because I had promised myself that I would focus on me this semester.
I had left everyone and everything I had ever known when I decided to move to New York. My mom wasn't very ecstatic but she never seemed to approve of anything that made me happy. That was a big reason why I wanted to move here, to get out of her overbearing grasp.
I had only had one boyfriend back home, Kyle. He was all I ever wanted. He was handsome and popular and he was good friends with my family.
A week after I told him I was leaving for college he slept with my best friend, leaving me with no one. He said that it was my fault because I hadn't spoken to him about leaving. The last month of high school was brutal. No one liked me because Kyle had spread rumors about me and of course they all listened. It didn't matter much to though. I only had one thing on my mind, college.
And here I am about to go to sleep after my first day at school. It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be like but to be honest I didn't really know what to expect.
Around 4am I heard Riley come back. Alone. She just got into bed and went to sleep. So did I.
My alarm went off two hours later waking us both up.
"Jeez can you turn that down." Riley said clearly hungover.
"Yea sorry." I mumbled still a little tired after not getting much sleep.
I got up and grabbed my shower caddie to go get ready.
The walk over to the bathroom wasn't long. I was fortunate that I had a girls only bathroom. Sadly you had to pass through the boys dorm to get there.
"Hey hottie" a boy called from his room. I stopped in my tracks startled.
"Can you guys knock it off!" yelled a familiar voice.
I looked around and locked eyes with Caleb. Of course.
"Oh hey Amelia right?" said Caleb
"Sorry about them, they're jerks"
"I know" I said.
Caleb came fully out of his dorm. Shirtless. He had a perfect torso that looked rock solid. He was tan and looked gorgeous.
I had to stop myself from staring.
"Like the view?" Caleb retorted.
I snapped back to reality and laughed awkwardly.
"I was just going to take a shower." I stuttered.
"I'll walk you there to make sure no one else bothers you."
"Oh um thanks" I said blushing.
"So whats your first class?"
"Intro to character building I think"
"You're not a theater major are you?" Caleb asked
"Yea I am actually" I said kind of offended.
"Everyone is a theater major here."
"Isn't NYU kind of known for that. Plus you could say the same about film."
"Whatever." Caleb said as we approached the bathrooms.
"Here we are."
"Thanks for walking me here." I said not really knowing what to say.
"Yea no problem" Caleb said still not moving.
"Well I'm gonna go now." I said uncomfortably.
I walked into the the bathroom and spent my entire shower thinking about my conversation with Caleb. It was so uneventful but felt like such a big deal. It reminded me of how it felt when I had a crush of a kid in my science class in middle school. But I had swore that I wasn't gonna let a little crush come in my way.
