red flags // part 1

the next day, I woke up. at least, I think it was the next day. I don't know how long I've been here. Or, why I'm here, for that matter. for some reason, though, I felt as if I belonged here. I know that's completely, absolutely crazy, but it felt like a part of me longed to be here. some kind of lust to be here.

"all patients please make your way to the hall. we need to feed you as well as treat you, apparently."

what? the hall? they're treating us? feeding us? in fact, who is 'us'?

the lights slowly flickered on, and the straps became loose around my arms and legs. I got up, and as soon as I did, I felt a shoot of pain across my leg and the back of my neck. a creaking of a door came from behind me, and i swivelled round.

as soon as I did, my eyes met with a teenage boy, around my age. he looked at me with... sadness, and then he spoke.

"hello. this is your first day, I presume. oh, and by the way, the pains are just what they put in your body to -" he stopped.

it was as if someone, or something, had told him to shut up. to say no more. as if he was already saying too much.

"uh, nevermind." he spoke rapidly. and with that, he was gone. confusion swarmed my head like angry bees in a hive. I recognised him. he was extremely familiar.

then it hit me.

he was the voice on the speaker.
