Acceptance

Moist petals crunched underneath my feet
the strong wind making no movement in my hair
walking towards the giant rock and taking a seat
I motioned for you to sit down here next to me

I slumped back and took a deep breath
almost recoiling as the familiar smell filled my lungs
the sadly familiar, sickening smell of death
and I my eyes gazed down towards your warm smile

This meadow is nothing compared to the butterflies
that once lied in your heart, body and soul
directing my attention up to the painfully blue skies
and I told you everything I didn't dare think

Again, that warm smile made my lungs fail
I could do nothing but watch you
as you turned to petals of a pink pale
and I watched as acceptance washed over me
How I wish you were here with me
